My new kayak finally came in!

It’s an OldTown Sportsman BigWater PDL 132. I have had only one trip on it so far, and it’s an amazing upgrade from my paddle kayak.

I have the Predator... What are the difference between this and the Predator PDL? They look the same from what I can see.

Enjoy! OldTown makes a very nice kayak and has the advantage of instant reverse... something that Hobie will never have. Enjoy!

Thanks everyone! And yes it is the exact same hull as the predator no difference. They just added to the “sportsman” line. Definitely like the instant reverse. So far I’m thoroughly impressed by it. And it’s an incredibly dry ride.

Mike not to derail the OP's post but you don't consider your PA 360 to have instant reverse?

The Hobie PA 360 is an awesome kayak! I just couldn’t afford it lol

How long did you have to wait?

I bought it in March and they were on back order not expected to get here until may 17, but it came in on April 28! So that was an awesome surprise.

Nice, and I have been hearing great things about those kayaks.

Not really because I still have to turn the handle 180 degrees to have reverse. Its really no different than pulling the cord on the mirage 180 drive.

Don't get me wrong, I absolutely love the 360. It maneuvers like none other. The 360 along with the rudder allows me to turn on a dime... I can literally go sideways!

However, while I do have reverse, I do not the "instant reverse" that the Old Town drive has. This instant reverse would be nice when hooking up a big fish... The "instant" additional leverage and pull would be nice.

I ordered the predator pdl in April. It's supposed to be here in 2 weeks. I have a Hoodoo pedal drive and I like it but a buddy of mine has a predator pdl. I tried his out one day and ordered my own the very next day. It's that nice! I can't wait!
