Big Cypress Bayou 12/10/20

Big Cypress Bayou 12/10/20 - 12/11/20 03:11 PM

Launched the kayak into Big Cypress Bayou around 10AM Thursday morning (12/10/20) and paddled upstream in search of some deep pools that may be holding crappie. I fished a 1/16 oz jig head with a slabalicious grub, but found no crappie. I did find a few nice white bass in the 14-15 inch range. The last fish of the day was caught by trolling a 3inch fat albert salt n pepper curly tail grub across a deep pool. I know it's too early for the spawning run, but there seems to be a few already in the river channel. 3 very courteous power boats passed by me going upstream or coming back down. They slowed down and watched out to make sure they did not capsize my kayak as they passed. Yes, we can all get along and share the waterways.

Nice trip. I also found the boaters to be courteous when I was there in my yak.

It's a 2018 model Native Watercraft Ultimate FX 12. Kayak model number #11 for me. Hoping my search for the perfect kayak has come to an end. I'm a kayaker with a fishing problem. I typically paddle 5 miles or more on every trip, so I prefer a fast narrow kayak design. To my surprise, this 30 inch wide kayak moves quite well due to the sharp bow and stern design. I have a renewed enthusiasm for kayak fishing and may also attempt to do some wildlife photography. Can't wait to get back out on the water.
