Moving Hobie Steering Lever

Moving Hobie Steering Lever - 08/28/20 07:29 PM

Has anyone bought a cheaper or older Hobie and moved the steering lever from the left to the right side of the kayak? I know they sell their most expensive kayaks with interchangeable steering but I am cheap and thinking about buying a a Hobie Passport 12’ if I can swap the steering over to the right side. I couldn’t find anything on YouTube.

OP not something you can really do without having hand access to the front and back of the hull since Hobie uses a pulley system. It may be easier to add a second handle rather than moving the handle. Either way you'll have to be able to access in the inside of the hull to install the pulleys.

Here's a twist n stow rudder system diagram

Yes, I know. I am just looking for some one who has done it. My first foray into working on plastic kayaks involved trying to plastic weld a crack and ended up the kayak on fire in the garage.

I found a good deal on a used ProAngler 12 so I no longer have a need to custom fabricate a steering lever swap. The ProAngler 12 is set up to do a steering swap in 3 minutes. I could even make it dual steering if I wanted.
