Sold my Hobie Compass. - 05/17/20 12:58 AM

Got tired of my Compass. So I sold it and bought a brand new 2020 Hobie Outback. This thing is a beast compared to the Compass. Can’t wait to take it out.

Does it have the 360 drive?
Bet you are going to love it.
Let us know your thoughts between the 2.

Your New outback is very sharp! What did you dislike of the compass? Or want out of a kayak that made you to decide to upgrade to the outback? I'm just itching to get one of these but the price point is a very significant difference in the two. I have watched probably every youtube video on both the compass and new outback and they praise them both. Hard to tell the difference other than weight and the outback seems to have many upgrades as standard. There are people mentioning the seat on the compass. I have not lake tested either though. Any thoughts appreciated.

Congrats on your new kayak. We have a one and love it. It definitely has a lot more bells and whistles than the Compass.

Speaking out of turn here. The only Hobies that have the 360 drive are the Pro Anglers 12 & 14. The Outback is not wide enough or stable enough for the current 360 drive. I say current because I believe Hobie is working on a modified version of the 360 that will work in the Outback.

The Compass is a good boat. It’s pretty stable, fast & light weight. It just didn’t have the bells and whistles that the Outback has. Even though I added alot of mods to the Compass. The seat does suck IMO. After a couple of hours my lower back would start to ache.

The dual rudder controls & transducer guardian is what made me upgrade. The kick-up fins is an added bonus.

I like the Outback a lot. My son has a 2018 Outback and I have a 2020 PA (recently upgraded from a 2017 PA). If the 2020 Outback had 360 fins it would have been a very hard choice for me. I really like the storage, size and standing stability of the PA... but the weight and sleekness of the Outbacks are hard to ignore.

It's interesting to hear about Hobie working on a variation of the 360 drive. It will be interesting to see what they come up with.

I just wish I could get my Hobie!!!
Ordered and paid for 2 PA14 360's but with Hobie having been shut sown for almost 2 months and only started back last Monday who knows how long I'm going to have to wait until they get shipped.

Thanks for the info, more things to consider in my decision.

When me and my wife demo'd the Compass we were pretty much set on getting one but the seat was what turned us off so we went with the Outback. After that I was looking for a seat pad for my Pro Angler. The seat on the PA has a gap between the base of the seat and the back which allows my back to sink down and puts it in an awkward position. Then I realized the seat on the Compass is the same way. I found this seat pad for my PA seat and it made a night and day difference. I've spent 6 solid hours in my PA with this seat pad and not felt a bit of soreness. Before after 6 hours I would be stoved up for a couple of days.

Lot of people said the new Outbacks seat was uncomfortable. I took it out today and was on the water for 4.5hrs. My lower back / body never ached once. Also the Outback feels so much more solid than the Compass. I can stand up and not feel the kayak getting tipsy compared to the Compass.
