Best net to use for treble hooks

Best net to use for treble hooks - 05/08/20 07:03 PM

Just wondering what net everyone has found to be good while fishing from kayak using lures with treble hooks. I have lost way to many bass at the edge of the kayak due to not using a net. I have read that the rubber nets are best for treble hooks, but I have never used one and was just wondering if yall have found that to be true or if a regular net will be just as good. I don't mind spending a little to get a product that will simply work and not cause any frustration when trying to use it.

Thanks for the help

i have 3 different nets with different material in each (one for boat/shore, one for kayak, and one for trout/fly) - and yes the rubber works the best for treble all around. It still catches on the net but you can untangle easily and it can't easily get caught "in" the material. It catches most easily on mono style nets and on fabric style nets it tends to get caught in the material. I have still occasionally had a hook try and "puncture" the rubber net but it never made it through the barb - so it was really easy to pull out.

All that said - though the material does make a difference the right size/design of net for the right activity/fish makes a bigger deal. If/when i replace my existing nets if i can find a rubber size/design that meets the need i'd probably spend the extra on it over the mono or fabric styles.

I have used this net for about 2 years without any issues, treble baits, single hooks, large bass, catfish, etc...

Rubber net, it floats, $19.99 at Academy and there normally always have them in stock.

Believe it is a Foreverlast G2 floating wading net, alot of people will modify them and add a pvc extension to the handle to make it longer.

I just lay mine on the front hatch cover and it is easy enough for me to grab if i think I need it to land a large or frisky fish.

I have a new rubber net kinda like the one posted above I would trade you for a couple deep diver crankbaits or squarebills. I bought it for my boat thinking I could save space. I learned quickly I needed a new with a long handle. So this net has just been sitting in my rod locker for about the last 6 months. It also has the stretchy clip I’m sure you can clip to kayak or life vest.

You and I think exactly alike. I use mine exactly as you mentioned, and have had no issues with hooks getting caught. Fishing out of a kayak, I also like that catfish spines don't seem to tangle in the net.

I sit low in the water and don't need much of a handle for my net. The one below is similar to what I've been using for the last 5 years.

I like one with the rubber netting. It is a lot easier to get the hooks out if they become tangled up

I just switched to a rubber net after a particularly ugly incident with nylon.
While fighting fish with one hand on fly rod, reached back to get my net. The net attacked my bait caster as I tried to bring it forward.
By the time I got the net and tangled bait caster in my lap to try to undo things it had become so tangled you could barely see the reel handles or drag adjustment on my abu.
Immediately knew that I was going to have to cut the net off the reel later.
Went out and got a rubber net. It to attacked my bait caster but was no trouble to get free while fighting a fish with the other hand.
Thinking maybe a net with smaller openings would be much less likely to catch on my bait caster.
