Kayaks - 04/02/20 09:51 PM

Ok here we go, wife and I already own 2 Jackson kayaks and trailer stored up in NM. We are currently in south Texas and looks like we will not be going any where soon. Its beautiful down here with so many places to fish and yak around. With nothing else to do, we can yak around. I am considering buying us 2 cheaper yaks while we are down here and just selling them later. Need some recommendations on 2 yaks under $700- $1000 that are decent yaks. One I will fish out of and would perfer a sit on top yak.
Thanks for the input

My son and I each have a discovery 124 from Dicks, I'm 185lb and he's 160lb. We bought them used for 400 total about 3 years ago. Originally we spent that small amount because we wanted to see if we truly enjoyed it, we do but don't see the need for more expensive kayaks. These have been very stable and neither of us have rolled one yet, finger crossed. We attached equipment to each, made crates, and they are good to go! They don't track the greatest but we've learned to keep our core body movements low while still paddling at a good rate. Two times I've been on Belton and didn't feel comfortable with the chop of the water but no matter what yak it was I wouldn't feel that comfortable. That's two out of about 100.

I know they're not great brands or that big but, they've been great for us.

There's a few Pescador 12's on Facebook Marketplace, Corpus around $300 each. You could do a lot worse than those, and could always get your money back out of them.

+1 on the Pescador. They are often the best option in terms of budget kayaks. You might be able to find a Heritage Angler or Redfish 12. These are also good kayaks but will be heavier than the Pescador's. Not sure what you're wanting to spend but Ryan Ford in Rockport has a couple of Viking Profish 400 kayaks from his rental fleet for $600 each. This is a good price and these kayaks have good resale value (except in today's times when almost no kayaks have good resale value). He may also have a used Viking tandem for sale if that is an option. His contact info is here https://www.vikingkayaksusa.com/
