kayaking Choke Canyon?

So I know that people with fishing boats do real well at times fishing Choke canyon, I am wondering if it would be worth the drive to put in my little inflatable by the dam at the boat launch. I don't know much about choke, tried from shore a few times and had no luck. Maybe that isn't the right part of the lake I don't know. I can't go real far with my 8 foot inflatable, maybe a mile or two, would it be worth it?

I don't know much about inflatables, but Choke Canyon has a lot of underwater trees and brush that in my opinion could wreak an inflatable.
Add some wave action which is typical on the lake because of the wind and you won't be able to spot those stickups and stumps until you are on top of them.
I would stay close to shore and not venture out into open water, but then again staying close to shore is where you might find the most stickups and snags. Kind of a double edged sword.

It is a high quality inflatable. It has an outer skin that is rubberized on the bottom, it's quite tough. I am just wondering if that part of the lake is any good or if I should go back to Medina lake or try Canyon lake?

I would consider Braunig or Caleveras before Canyon or Medina. Most def not Choke in an inflatable. No matter what the quality.

I would put in at the Hwy 99 bridge and fish in that area. You will not have to deal with any wind and there are plenty of good spots up river from the bridge to catch some nice large mouth bass, crappie and catfish. Just stay away from the shorelines with trees.

Kayaked there a few years ago. Felt really uncomfortable in a kayak 15 yards from a very big gator and saw WAY more gators than I thought we would. After that, never been back.
