Anchoring ideas.

Looking for some anchoring ideas for my jackson mayfly. Currently using a 5lb claw on a 50ft rope, works great until its time to retrieve it. Was looking at the Anchor wizard or open to other ideas. Biggest struggle is reaching it, currently tied on the back

1kg (2.2 lbs)bruce anchor, 30 ft of 5/16" 3-strand rope, an anchor trolley on your yak. If that doesn't hold you, the wind and waves are too much. I never got a stake-out pole to work well. Sand was too hard. Mud was too soft. Grass was too thick. It's rare that I can't get my bruce to grab. I tie the rode to the aft hole and use two small tie-wraps around the rode at the other end, that will break if I get hung up on something immovable.
I did 30,000 ocean miles between Galveston and Venezuela in 38-foot sail and power boats. I had five anchors of four different styles. The bruce always worked best.

If you fish around standing timber, a brush gripper and 10' to 15' of paracord will do the trick most of the time. I like this style because its small and light... You can clip it, wrap it or jam it in a crack.

If the hassle is trying to lean way back to reach your anchor rope, attach a little zig-zag cleat close to you and use that as your anchor point.

This is what I use. I got tired of all the line everywhere and getting tangled. I made this and tried it for the first time last week and it worked really well. Just add whatever style anchor you prefer.

Divers use those reels for cave and wreck diving to enable them to get back to the entrance if the water silts up or there are many turns.

Use a 5lb anchor on a 26ft retractable dog leash clipped to the bottom of my chair. Always handy, within reach and no rope to coil. I never go deeper than 20ft.

That's what I'm using. Works great, but if the wind kicks up I get blown around like a top.

It's bulky but it holds.

Imo, this is ok in low wind and current but anchors should always be connected to an anchor trolley. It's the safe way. I know many of you don't do it that way but you all should.

I am using a retracting clothesline. Removed most of the stock clothes line and tied paracord. Holds about 46’. Mounted it on my crate for easy access.

Anchoring in itself is almost a hobby of mine unto itself. Without going into a long piece on available anchoring options, let me just talk about your specific issue.

Have you installed an anchor trolley? A trolley will allow the placement of the anchor rope at the front of the kayak or at the rear. This lets you position your boat into the wind or position you facing downwind. When it's time to retrieve the anchor, it will allow the rope to come to you for retrieval. Note: you can use a regular anchor with an anchor trolley as well. I tried to make this post short and to the point. I can get carried away when it comes to anchoring systems.
