Jim Ford. I agree with what you are saying. But I am a kayak dude. Not able to get around as if I had a boat. So what I have been doing is taking the Yak out without any rods. To try to find some spots. Cause if I have a rod on the boat. I will fish. LOL. Thanks Guys.
I gotcha. I fish kayaks too. I have three yaks, a SoloSkiff, and a Skull Island poling skiff. I use them all. You should have viable structure near your launch point. If it's a marina, you'll likely notice that the powerboaters generally run a long way from the marina. That's to your advantage in a yak; you don't need to travel so far. The marina I fished out of on Conroe (Stow-A-Way) has a lot of prime structure within half to three quarters of a mile. Much of it with cover added. In fact, I often worked that structure out of my bass boat on foggy or stormy days, when I didn't want to stray too far.
Assuming you have a sonar unit, study the chart and pick your areas. Load your rods and a couple of marker buoys. Find the cover and fish the cover. Load it into your GPS, if you have one. Yes, it's easier to get around in a powerboat, but there's no reason you can't do it in a yak. It takes a little bit longer, but it's not all that hard to do. Go for it, and good luck!
