Best Trolling Motor Battery - Kayak - 02/23/18 01:13 PM

There is a similar topic in the Open Freshwater Discussion forum but the responses are for larger boats not kayaks. Thought I would ask the same question here but for using the trolling motor battery in a kayak where the type of battery and the weight of the battery matter more.

I have purchased a Predator MK with a 45 pound thrust Minn Kota trolling motor whose battery box will fit a Type 24 or Type 27 battery. I have been looking at a something like this UPG 12V 100Ah AGM Sealed Lead Acid Battery UB121000 Group 27 battery since I want a 100AH battery.

What similar batteries are you using in your kayak or more importantly what batteries should not be used.

Thanks.

Optima blue top...you only got room for one battery...this battery can be completely discharged many times without hurting life expectancy of battery...your battery charger needs to be a smart charger (and they are cheap these days)...it’s what I use in my two man...for that very reason...got tired of lugging two lead acids because I kept killing new lead acid batteries by discharging them too much, while using one battery. Remember that old commercial...You can thank me now or thank me later punchline? It applies here.

The best would be a Lithium battery...
