Best option?

Hello experienced Yakers....

Is the difference between these 2 kayaks worth the extra $500? I will average 3x a month usage. I want to make sure I enjoy a long day trip but I am trying to keep things in context and not go overboard.Ex-boat owner looking for enjoyment and not trying to chase the tournament trail any longer....you know the story.

I have the Pescador Pro and my buddy has the heritage. The Pro is MUCH more comfortable, sonar is much easier to rig, and it paddles better. Can’t emphasize the comfort difference enough. Very big difference. I would get the Pescador Pro.

yes, The difference in the Pesky Pro vs the Heritage is worth the price. The most important thing is to get off the bank and on the water but if I have the option between these two, its the Pesky every day.

I would recommend the Perception Kayak. I have the Pilot, the seat is good for a long day trip. I usually put down a cushion for added comfort.

Get Pescador Sport 12' off craigslist -- should cost you around $300-$400. Make sure it has no leaks (like with any kayak). It has only drawback -- can't stand in it.

I've had a Pescador 12 for five years. Great kayak. Light, fast, and manuverable. Very tender and tippy. No standing in that kayak! The factory seats really suck. You can add a seat pad, but a better option is getting a good aftermarket seat(I bought a Gone Fishin' seat for mine). I added a 2" closed cell foam pad under that, which gets your butt out of the water (that always accumulates under the seat). If you can paddle that kayak without turtling it, you can do well in any other kayak.
Not the best kayak, but you won't get more bang for the buck. If you buy used, you can always get your money back, or keep it for a buddy kayak. Academy usually has them on sale a couple of times a year for $399.00. Last week they were $499.00. Normally $549.00.
My neighbor has one from West Marine, just like mine. I have it on permanent loan.

Saw this ad on CL that may be worth a look. If the Pescador is in good condition you could buy it and resale would make you a profit.

Make sure that you get a Kayak that has a weight limit that will fit you and your gear.

If you tell us what area of Texas you live and your weight, it might help with recommendations for other kayaks that would work or are for sale in your area.

Really looking at used units more and more and truly in love with the ATAK 140. Would like to stay in the $1k range used market. Might be just a dream.....

I really want open water unit and possible salt water bay usage.
