Landlocked in San Antonio

Landlocked in San Antonio - 11/16/22 02:37 PM

Me: 59 year old male with everything I need to enjoy life... except a boat. Living in The Woodlands, I was privy to excellent pond fishing for years. Still go back to get my fix, because despite how much I like San Antonio and the woman I moved here for, I find it extremely difficult to pursue my piscatorial passion.
You: Have a boat! Wouldn't mind offsetting the cost of said watercraft by finding a fishing buddy willing to pay to play. Enjoy wit, whiskey and wacky rigging, despite voting for Bill Lewis for president. Chase only largemouth and would go as far as the border to do so.

Re: Landlocked in San Antonio - 12/12/22 11:35 PM

I know you put this up a while back. I am in New Braunfels, I am older than you, but still able, have an almost new 19 ft Tracker with all the bells and whistles, big screens, talons, etc. got a fishing partner but he is ailing and not able to get up and go. Escaped from Cali 2-1/2 yrs ago. I fished low level tournaments there for 17 yrs while in business and married to ex. I am not the least bit interested in tournaments any more, been there and done that. I have fished Canyon and Buchanan with guides but not my boat yet, both lakes plagued by low water. Last time I went to Canyon, all the ramps were closed. Discovered lake Bastrop. where water level is maintained, easy 1-1/2 hr drive from NB. Lots of aquatic vegetation with constant water level. Should be good for flipping, Senkos, etc. I like to fish falling baits, topwaters and rip baits but am comfortable with most bass methods. Shoot me a PM if you want to get together and swap lies.

Have received a few bites, but still standing on land. Willing to make it rain to get out this week! I'll even prepare a swag bag for my captain. Walter Long, Canyon, Choke?

Fished Walter Long with a guide yesterday and paid for a good friend to join me. The guide was good. The catching was almost nonexistent. I didn't land one. Still, it was okay. I worked on pitching for a while as we just couldn't find them over 6+ hours despite multiple lures and techniques and fishing hard. FYI: electronics were showing a boat load of crappie. Our guide went back out to bag dinner.

Darn. Wish you'd have got back to me sooner. Spent $150 for each of the four small bass my buddy and guide caught. Went to the San Antonio River 15 minutes from my house yesterday and caught a three pounder on the second cast.

I'm jealous of your ability to get on the water. I have thought I may have seen you the day I went with the guide. We actually look quite similar. I'm going to get there again in the very near future. Watching the weather and our schedule on the home front.

Re: Landlocked in San Antonio - 04/14/23 12:49 PM

Rejoined a San Antonio club, but with just 30 members, there's no guarantee that a seat is available for tournaments. Fished Canyon one day for few results. I go see my mother in The Woodlands and land 20 in ponds in a couple of days...up to 4 lbs is typical.
So, once again, anybody near SA that can and wants to fish exclusively for largemouth any day of the week. It's April!
