New to Aubrey TX...Looking for boater To fish with - 08/14/21 11:37 PM

Hello All!

I just moved to Aubrey,TX last week after 43 years in CA. I am an experienced bass fisherman for Western Reservoirs and have fished TX lakes while growing up. Been about 20 years though since the TX lake fishing. Looking for a boating partner and I will buy all the gas. Would love to get to know Lake Ray Roberts or Lewisville before I get my boat. I have a lot of house work to do before I get the boat....So would love to get experience and meet some friends. Again I will pick up all the gas and have all my own equipment...just tell me what to bring in my boat bag and what to leave at home!

Looking forward to getting to know you all soon!

Hey Adambasser17! I moved from California two months ago. Best decision my family has ever made. I think you will love it.

Looks like you Aubrey is in between Ray Roberts and Lewisville. I went to Ray Roberts for the first time yesterday. It's a huge, beautiful lake. Boat traffic wasn't that bad yesterday (probably because it ended up raining like crazy).

Also, I personally enjoy the fishing a lot more in Texas. No more dropshots and 8 pound test for me lol.

Your better off not letting Texan's know your from Cali . Many of them friendly Texans think everyone form Cali is a communist and shares their hate on good people who genuinely love Texas the way it is and don't want to change it . It has been a very frustrating experience to be hated on because of geography . I have never lived anywhere else that can compare to the fishing here . The Striped bass and the huge Catfish have given me hours of fishing pleasure . I still have not gotten used to the thrill of seeing the sand bass and the striped bass chase bait to the surface . Unfortunately we have decided to follow our paychecks to Washington state at the end of the month and will be leaving this magnificent state . Hopefully Sturgeon , Salmon , and Trout fishing will be enjoyable . Hopefully you can adapt to the heat and humidity here .

i don't post alot.but here goes. i deal with alot of cali people every day.with all the companies coming to n tx. we have had a influx of north west states coming in.the 1st yr or 2 all i heard was we drive crazy .the roads were built by drunks. its too hot blah blah blah. meanwhile. we have an economy that is incredible and your coming from a state that it seems everyone is jumping ship before it sinks. and then coming here to tell us how great it was. texans are a very proud group of people and known to be friendly.
but we wont tolerate disrespect to our state or its people. to the op i didn't contact you because i don't fish for bass but you have a pm that may help.

The drop shot still works very well here in Texas but you can use 12-15# test....no problem.

You are right. The other day I used a drop shot for the first time in Texas at a local pond and had good success with it. I don’t throw it very often anymore but I will go back to the drop shot when I can’t catch a fish. But I use 12 pound test now and fish it slightly faster.

I throw a drop shot 90% of the time because it just flat out catches fish. I have 3 drop shot rods on the deck of my boat to utilize 3 different baits on each one. Then I have 5 other rods on deck for other techniques.

Really had a great time reading the last few posts from TFF old timers. I am a recent Cali transplant (17 months ago) and I few words for the new(er) Cali to Texas immigrants: Texans are known to be kind. A great example of that is how folks get let in to a line of traffic from the side. Just try THAT in Cali. It is worth reading up on a bit of Texas history before you start thinking of what needs to be changed. Texas is the ONLY state that was ever a country. Think about that one, If you read more than what's on the computer screen, the book "Lone Star" tells how Texas came to be what it is. A very long read but well worth it. Driving Texas roads is another thing. You are EXPECTED to drive the speed limit. If you aren't up for that, stay on the frontage road. We consider we ESCAPED from Cali, and we are most thankful to have finally gotten here. Don't want to change a thing.
Still looking for a back seat ride I can reach from New Braunfels, until I can get another bass boat

y'all are funny...fishing remember, who cares where you from if you like fishing then its all good. A holes everywhere, everyone is from somewhere...fish don't give flock, where you from.
If someone says..."hey don't tell people where you from"......"Tell them you are a convicted murderer, your where framed"....funny as heck....you ever wanted to find out how it is here in Texas..think you may have..
