BFL Cowboy Division

BFL Cowboy Division - 08/12/19 01:56 PM

I plan on fishing the Cowboy division in 2020. I will be entering as a boater and and will be traveling from the Corinth/ Flower Mound area. I would really like to find other boaters or co anglers that are from the DFW area and would like to have a travel partner/roommates. It would be nice to have a group to travel with and even practice maybe. I plan on taking a day or two to practice before each tournament. If I can find more than a couple of people, I know of a couple airbnb homes that would be cheap enough to be an option. I’m getting on up there in years now (50) and don’t like to sleep in the back of my truck anymore. I have lots of tournament experience but this is the first year that I’m fishing the BFL. I’m new to those lakes also and looking at this upcoming year as a learning experience. I know there has to be other anglers traveling to these tournaments from the DFW area, it’s a long drive and part of the reason for fishing these tournaments for me is to find new friends along the way. I know the schedules haven’t dropped yet but I’m ready to start planning as soon as they do. My name is Darin, reply or pm me if this sounds like something you might be interested in.

Hey Darin, not in your neck of the woods, but on the results for each of this years Cowboy division tournaments it does list the city they are from. That might help you and you may even find some people you know. There is also a Facebook group for locating partners in the BFL's. This is my second year as a boater, I've enjoyed it but not 100% sure I will do it next year. Great people and well run series.

If you don't already have it, take a look at Lance Vick's Boatlanes for Rayburn and Toledo, they will keep you out of trouble. In addition, if you do not already follow Ken Smith Fishing, he has a bunch of good videos on his tournament results the past couple of years as well as a series of videos on Rayburn hazards, well worth the time to watch them and take notes on the waypoints he gives you on areas to watch out for.

Holler if you have any questions.

Good luck.

Thanks for the info 721, I didn’t think to look at the results from this year. I will probably post something on the Facebook page when the schedules come out , I just thought that I would get an early start and thought there would most likely some TFFers that were thinking the same thing. I do subscribe to Ken Smith, he puts a lot of great info out there and he’s a “stick” too.
Thanks

Good deal! I have had the chance to talk to Ken quite a bit at tournaments, good stick and a helluva nice guy.

One thing I would advise you on, start looking for someone to link with. If you can get a co locked up for the year, it takes a lot of load off of you having to find one. There has been at least one where they had to go boater with boater due to the lake of co-anglers. Register early with a link and you might be okay, no guarantees, but it might help.

As to places to stay, I have been using Rayburn Country, figure $90 a night with plenty of boat parking. I split a room with a guy so I can stand $45 a night.

The elusive travel partner is hard to find and keep. But splitting room expenses is a bit easier to find.
