Fat Cats and a couple of Fat Basses

Fat Cats and a couple of Fat Basses - 03/06/17 05:12 PM

Somerville yesterday from 11-5:30pm. Wind out of the South and Southeast and blowing good, scatter showers and heavy cloud cover. Water temps in the 60's, air temp in the high 60's. Water clarity was good, green color, visibility less than 1ft.

Started off the day dropping out jugs (weightless noodle style, single hook) out to soak. Set upwind and drifted into a cove. Baited with live perch. Lengths of line varied from 3-7ft on the jugs.

Worked several coves throwing soft plastics, chatterbaits, and cranks. Picked up a couple dinks, then laid into a big bucket mouth. Cheap scale put her over 8lbs. She was released unharmed to lay her eggs and hopefully produce more quality fish like herself.

Marked several bait balls on the graph in a deeper cove near some rocks. Started drifting through with some large live shiners. When I say large, I'm talking 3"+ Big shiners. Hooked up on this big fat Hybrid, around 22". Full of eggs but too nice to turn loose, so into the box she went.

Somewhere in between we ran jugs as we saw them turn up. Chased one down out in midlake with the biggest of the 2 blues on it. Fish was CPR'd and returned to lay her eggs as well. Big blue #2 was also CPR'd to hopefully add to the blue cat population.

Ended the day with 10 more nice cats for the grease and the big hybrid. Despite the rain and stiff breeze, fishing with your best buddy is always good whether you are catching or not. Another great trip in the books. Till next time.

Man,people can be snobs all the views but no replys,I don't get it.
Let me explain, you tell in detail how you had success, current lake conditions, practice CPR on the trophy fish, you didn't do that stupid arms out, look at me,I got a big fish. And hold fish out so it looks twice as big. You held next to you for size comparison.
Well, I'll say it again, nice fishing and write up. Much respect! Thanks,I miss that lake. clap BTW that hybrid sure is a football.

Awesome day! Don't worry about the hybrid with eggs, those guys can't reproduce anyway, for the most part. And they are good eats!
