Re: Lake falcon guide service report - 05/16/16 04:53 AM

Thanks for the good reports on Falcon. I'm new down here and just getting the hang of it.

If you see a yellow Nucanoe kayak decked out with rod holders and a fish finder probably on the dam end give me a holler!

Re: Lake falcon guide service report - 05/21/16 03:31 PM

Went out solo yesterday just scouting looking for some new
Water. I fished south, some places I hadn't been in months
And had a descent day, don't know if it was the lake coming
Up a little, which is awesome by the way,or just the day but just
One here one there mainly until around 330 then it got
Back to how the lake has been fishing. 830am-300pm
20-25 fish still an ok day but 330-515 probably caught 30.
Defiantly a strong late bite, at least for me. Still caught some
Shallow but better fish out a little deeper 8-12ft on 5xds
In shad colors. Rock and more rock as usual. Thanks Jimmy steed LFGS.

Been down here for a few days and its been a dink fest for me. Flipping and spinnerbait up shallow. Squarebill bite has slowed big time since sunday. Can't get anything going out deep yet.

Re: Lake falcon guide service report - 05/25/16 04:44 AM

No doubt you gotta go through a lot of little ones
To get a good one up shallow lately. I haven't been
Able to get on anything real deep either but that 8-12
Seems to be putting out some better fish just definitly
Not as many bites. Still the best fishing down here in a good
While.

Took out Sam and Diego today,
Had a pretty good day caught 50-60 fish
And had around 28-30 lbs biggest five. Gonna sound
Dumb after those numbers but it was a bit tougher
Today we never really got on a group of fish and had to really
Move around a lot and it was a bit warm today. It still amazes me
How shallow these fish still are, most still came in 8-12 ft maybe
Even a little shallower than that. Same old story on the baits trig

I hate posting these kind of reports because they sound pretty dumb, but took Joe out today, caught 60 + fish easy, had 25-26 lbs on five but it was kinda off today. I don't really know what it was( imma blame the full moon, good an excuse as any I guess) but we just never really got on the bigger fish to good, just one here one there, I had a 7 and Joe had a couple round 6,lots of 11/2-2lbers today. Caught em several different ways today cranking, casting trigs and some flipping, all in all still an ok day, at least the wind wasn't blowing 20, and Falcon still gives you a shot at a giant on any cast. Took out Donato and Mike from Florida today, zebco guys lol, but still did pretty good
Considering they don't get to fish too much. We were kinda limited but all they wanted
was to catch fish so it was an all squarebill day. We caught around 70 with no great big
ones but some nice fish, at one point I asked mike if he wanted to go try some different
Techniques and see if we can't get on some bigger ones and that was shot down real quick.

Anytime, I know I see you guys out there on kayaks and imagine it
could be rough with that wind sometime. You could put in at velas
camp In the Tigers and have a lot of good areas to fish that is pretty
wind protected. Call me anytime if you wanna talk about the lake.

Jimmy, I really enjoy reading your posts, but man, it would really help if you could make each report a new thread. These 4 page threads make me not really want to sort through them. I'd like to see your up to date post so I can quickly see what's happening on the lake at the time of the post. Would sure make it easier for me at least. Just my 2 cents.

Any preferences on launching at Arroyo Veleno vs. the state park? I've got a 17 ft boat so I don't want to travel too far on the main lake. I know it can get rough. I was there back in the 90s so I can imagine it's a different lake now.

Re: Lake falcon guide service report - 04/03/17 12:55 PM

Had a great day with Jimmy. He worked very hard to put me on fish. We started up lake in the Salado and the fishing was tough, the little guys were there but no size. The wind blew all day Friday and was blowing when we arrived Saturday am. The water was very dirty as they continue to pull water exposing the banks, and those fish don't like it.

After a few hours, Jimmy said let's put it on the trailer and go to the State Park and launch down lake. The wind would have caused kidney damage if we tried to run it. So we did, we launched down lake and it was on.

Thanks Jimmy for making the move! See you soon. Dave

Re: Lake falcon guide service report - 06/10/17 12:23 AM

Day one of the API is over, Juan and his boy Sergio had a good day,
catching easy around 80 fish today, we didn't have the weight we had last year
but still ok, 14 lbs on three, Sergio had our big bass today at 5.15. We had a bunch of solid 3 3/4- 4 1/2 pound
fish today, we'll see how it goes tomorrow, be nice for them to repeat.

Re: Lake falcon guide service report - 06/11/17 01:08 AM

Congrats to Juan and his son Sergio, we ended up first in the guided
division of the API on falcon for the second straight yr with 24 lbs and change.
Good job guys. Fishing continues to be good with lots of numbers and some good fish mixed in.

Re: Lake falcon guide service report - 09/02/17 12:40 AM

Been a while since I posted, been a while since I'd been out,
Had some health issues with my dad but he's doing better now,
got him back home this week. Lakes pretty low almost 38ft low but
it's on a rise, how much we'll just have to wait and see. Was out solo
today, numbers were decent 25-30 with a couple around 6 and a couple 4s
would've definitely caught more with some other lines in. It's a good time to head
down here as you can catch them many different ways which is always good and
even though it's not much it is a little nicer heat wise than it's been. If your interested in a trip
to falcon or sugar give me a call or email. Thanks, jimmy.

Took Dave out today and he wrecked some nice ones,
numbers were good, the wind kinda took the big numbers game
out of our day but still caught quite a few. Fished mid depth and caught em
on a few different patterns. Fishings good, call or email for trip info.
Thanks, jimmy. Remember to wear that PFD.

Re: Lake falcon guide service report - 09/27/17 12:24 AM

Hey Jimmy!

Word is Mexico got hammered last night with some pretty good rain. Roads flooding etc. all in the area between Falcon and Amistad so hopefully we will get a bump on the water level the next couple days.

Any tips on fishing Falcon during a water rise? I've lived here 1 1/2 years and it's basically done nothing but drop. Amistad has only given us enough to barely maintain. We've held steady at 262 for a couple months it seems.
Posted By: JimmysteedLFGS

Re: Lake falcon guide service report - 09/27/17 05:43 PM

I've heard and seen some vids, we sure can use any rise
but hopefully this will be somewhat significant. For me, Falcon
can be tuff on a rise, once it stabilizes thats a different story, blades
and top waters can be productive, topwaters dont factor into fishing falcon
for me much but this time of year, on a rise, they do produce. Prob do well
other times but I just don't really throw them at all on falcon.

Went out solo looking around, lake looks awesome, it's come up around
18ft. Had a really good day, got on a couple schools, caught around 40
and left them biting. Not all giants but some nice ones several 3-5 lbers
with my biggest going around 8lbs. If this sounds like fun give me a call

just under 6. Lakes fishing good, call or go to my site for trip info.

Been a while with hunting season and all but it was good to get back
on Falcon. I took Tom and his grandson Tomas out today and we had
a really good trip with Tomas catching his PB which was just under 8lbs. and
several solid fish. Numbers were good and the lake looks awesome. We are
gonna have a great spawn this yr with the lake,as of now, 17 ft low. We caught most of
our fish today in 6-10ft with soft plastics and CBs. Call or visit my site for trip info, dates

Out looking for more water today, had a lot of solid fish
and I know, doesnít count wo the pics, but lost 2 really
big ones(over 10). Even out messing around solo it still kinda
sucks losing those. If your waiting for it to warm up a bit more
your gonna miss out, the lake is about to blow up, these fish
are just about ready. I still have a few days available in February.

57-58 water temp but thatís not slowing the bite down. Call

really limited us today but we still caught quite a few.
10-12 ft with big bite fighting frogs and creature baits

I just want to drop a note regarding a great Falcon trip with Jimmy this past week. Despite some weird weather the two days we were out there, we were still able to catch a large number of fish and had some good sized ones to the boat. Jimmy worked hard at getting us to the fish, fished when needed to find patterns, put the rod down to let us get after it when things got going, continually helped us with rigging and hang-ups to keep us fishing, was patient with both of us, and was a just a pleasant guy to be around. Overall, a great time and most importantly my wife (who does not fish much) had a great time and is already looking forward to another trip! Thanks, Jimmy! -- Chris & Laurie

on a slow rise which can be tuff but the fish are still in a biting mood.

then had 3 teenagers,myself and a 20+ mph

Clint,Angela and their son Cole had a pretty good day
on Falcon catching decent numbers and some solid fish.
7.09 was our biggest and lost another big one. Had
26-27 lbs on five with a shot at over 30. Deep crankbaits
on rock caught most of our fish.

was enough, Bens first time on Falcon and his first five
fish of the day go around 28 lbs. guide 0!!! (Whatever) JK thatís
the way it should be. He was really excited and I was super happy
for him. We ended up with close to 30lbs and around 25 fish. Deep crankbaits
and senkos caught most of our fish in 10-12 ft of water. July is filling up
but I still have some dates available.

today, seems the bigger fish(one exception)
are in some type of transition, at least from where Iíve been able
to get on em pretty good lately. But they are in there and theyíll show
up, itís Falcon and the fish of a lifetime could happen on any cast. Iím still
catching fish on cbs in 12-14ft and on tx rig big bite trick sticks in the brush.

Re: Lake falcon guide service report - 07/18/18 10:53 PM

After a couple of ehhh trips with no big fish(over6) last week
I wanted to go out and see if I could figure out whatís going on
with the big girls. Numbers were still ok but we just didnít get a big bite.
After a back to back 8.60 and 7.09 then a 8.68 to back them up Iíve come to
the conclusion that thereís nothing wrong with them, sometimes they just
donít bite!!! Luckily I work on(in my opinion) the best lake in the country and
that doesnít happen too often and usually, 9 outta 10 times, youíll at least have a shot
at a big one, wether or not you land it, thatís a different story. The lake is starting to fall again
and its mud point down south, county still on the ramp. Iím still catching most fish shallower
than 15ft with cbs on the rock and tx rigged big bite trick sticks in none other than
wtr red (shocker) in the brush. I still have some dates open this month, call or visit
my site for trip info. Thanks, jimmy.

Re: Lake falcon guide service report - 07/28/18 09:59 PM

Finished up a couple of trips, yesterday
I had Bret and Kaleb for a full day and we had some
decent fish with two just under and one just over 7 lbs.
Kaleb almost had his PB but she got off just outta net reach,
Heís fishing a few more days so hopefully he can get it done. We
couldnít get bit on cbs at all yesterday and had to slow down
and ended up catching all of our fish on big bite 5 inch trick sticks(grn pumk char)
and 8 inch finesse worms in wtr red. Still caught our better fish in 10-12ft.
Today it was Manuel and his 7 yr old son Manuel, it was pretty windy
and trying to get kids on fish usually requires a different approach we square billed
it most of the day and had good numbers,no big ones but anytime a kid can
catch a few thatís always a win in my book. Most came in 4ft and less. Call or visit my site
for trip info, thanks.

Re: Lake falcon guide service report - 08/04/18 10:56 PM

Has it been hot? Yes. Windy at times? Yes. But Falcon
just seems to keep putting out nice, solid fish. We had two
just under 9 the last three days and a lot of 6-7lb fish. I have
totally lost the ability to catch a cb fish and donít even have one
out on the deck anymore. Iím sure there are people still catching
some on cbs but not me or my customers. Everything the last few days
has been caught on wrt red big bite 5 inch trick sticks and 8 inch big bite
finesse worms. Call or visit my site for trip info, I have plenty of open dates in
August. Thanks, jimmy.

Had a few nice ones today with Brian and his nephew cooper.
Numbers were ok, kinda slowed down for us a little after 12-1 o clock.
We had around 27-28 lbs on our five heaviest with a 8.58 and a 7.55 for
our bigs. Not much has changed as far as depth and baits other than Brian
Caught that 7.55 on a c rigged senko, 10-12 ft. Still have dates available this month,
Thanks, jimmy.

Re: Lake falcon guide service report - 08/19/18 10:24 PM

Itís been over a week since Iíve been on Falcon and it hasnít
changed much, the last time Ben was down here his first five of the
day went close to 28 lbs, he brought his wife Brooke with him today
and we had close to that but it did take us til like 2 oíclock. Numbers
were good and Brooke caught her biggest bass to date, a chunkie 4lber
and Ben had our big one that went 7.65. The lake is supposedly hangin
steady but itís not, itís down from last week. Patterns havenít changed although
we were able to catch a few on a cb today, 10-12 ft rock and a 5 inch big bite
trick stick in the brush( wtr red). I have plenty of open dates the next few weeks
and the fishingís great.

Re: Lake falcon guide service report - 08/26/18 09:43 PM

Ben was back quick and he brought his pal Jason with him.
We had a chance at a BIG bag today but did not execute.
Ben landed a 11.11 lber, lost one as big and we lost another
between 8-9 lbs, and no I donít have the new line with the scale
in it, lol, just a guess. We had 25 fish or so for a half day trip, crankbaits
and big bite trick sticks caught all our fish today in 12-15 ft of water.

Had James and Ryan out today on Falcon,
28-29 lbs on our five heaviest fish and a 8.24 lber for
our big fish of the day. Not much has changed, caught most
of our fish cranking in 10-12 ft on rock ledges and some
on big bite trick sticks. Plenty of open dates the next few weeks,
letís go fishing!!!

Fished amistad all last week so I hadnít been on Falcon
since Tuesday. The lakes come up over 5ft and is looking
nice. All ramps are working. I started out on some of the deeper
stuff Iíve been fishing with zero luck. I ended up catching all of my
fish today in 1-2 ft of water in all of the newly flooded vegetation. Blades
and even some topwater. Rest of the month and middle of next month have
a bunch of open dates. Letís go fishing!!!

I have a six day stretch coming up so Iíve been out the last few days
scouting around. The lakes up 11ft and is looking nice. Water clarity
isnít an issue. Iíve been catching some solid fish in 1-5ft on blades and
Tx rigs. The weathers been nice and the fish have been biting. I have
plenty of open dates this fall. Letís go fishing. Thanks, Jimmy.

Things are already changing on the lake. The fish are moving
and you need to cover a bunch of water. We had a few good ones
and a Pb this past trip.

Re: Lake falcon guide service report - 10/13/18 12:17 AM

I finished up a 4 day trip with Mike and Jerry today.
We had 95-100 fish with a few nice ones. Our big fish
of the trip was Mike's 9.06. I know this may sound kinda weird
with the numbers and size, guess weíre sorta spoiled down here,
but fishing was a grind, you have to cover ALOT of water
cus the fish are really spread out but grouped up. Most of our fish
came on wht/chat spinnerbaits and when we caught some weíd
slow down and throw 5 inch big bite trick sticks. 5ft and less mostly. I
have plenty of dates open this fall, letís go fishing!!!

It was another grind it out past few days with Craig
his dad Larry and Gary and Teresa that I had for
a half day. We ended up with 95 fish with no great
big ones but some solid fish. The water temp had dropped
twelve degrees and really slowed the bite down up until the
last couple of days. Fish seemed a bit deeper 6-10 ft and we
caught all of our fish on wht char spinnerbaits and 5 inch big bite
trick sticks. I have plenty of open dates in nov, letís go fishing!!

Wow, been a minute since I posted, everythingís all fancy and updated.
Got back on Falcon today after having been off for a few weeks and the lake
is in great shape. We are at 22 ft low and should have another amazing spawn.
I shook off more fish than I caught today with a couple of up coming trips but still
landed a few nice ones. Most were on tx rigged big bite trick stick and jerk shads. I
did have a few on shallow cbs and spinnerbaits, 6-12ft. Iíll be leaving the 29th to start
practice for the costa on amistad and will not be back until the 7th. January, February,
April and May are filling up, donít wait too long to book your trip this coming year. Merry Christmas

Re: Lake falcon guide service report - 12/29/18 12:52 AM

What a great trip to end 2018. Jimmy and Jack came
down for the last two days and we put it on em. We had 80-90
fish and close to 62 lbs for our heaviest 10 fish. Big fish of the trip
was a 9.12 lber. Most of our fish were in less that 5 ft and we caught all but
a hand full on big bite trick sticks and big bite jerk shads. Water temps ranged
from 60-64 degrees and the lake is holding right at 22 ft low. I have plenty
of open dates in January, but donít wait too long to book as the rest of
the spring is filling up. Thank you to all my customers for making 2018 an
amazing year for me, hopefully 2019 is as good or better. Hope everyone

weather itís going to get crazy. The water temps dropped to 57 but by this afternoon they were
back at 60. We caught most of our fish in 2-5 ft on blades and trigs. In 3 days we landed around

In the bk third of the creeks. 6-8ft and a pretty good flippin bite. The
lake continues to fall and I didnít see any water temp higher than
57. We are currently 25 1/2 feet low but still in good shape for a great spawn( for now)

It seems like the semi slow down we had is over. We caught over 115 fish the last few days
and some really nice ones. Water temps are way up in the 60s and it has another wave moving up.
Most of our fish were in 2-3ft of water and we caught 90% of them flipping big bite creature baits and jerk minnows.
If you donít have a trip booked or plan on coming down youíre missing out. I still have a couple of days the last week of February available, letís go fishing!!! Hereís some our better ones. [Linked Image]

some 6s. Still super shallow and caught flipping and on spinner baits in the

I have only been to Falcon once when the lake was low and we flipped brush all day. What time of the year is best for deep cranking and throwing football jigs deep? Thanks
Posted By: JimmysteedLFGS

Re: Lake falcon guide service report - 03/04/19 04:18 AM

Usually from late May on through the summer we catch them good on
deep crankbaits and football jigs.

Re: Lake falcon guide service report - 03/04/19 04:36 AM

Pretty much a full blown post spawn deal going on down here but youíll always have your
stragglers and main lake spawners. We have managed to still catch some troughout the day
but you gotta work for your bites right now. Seems like the shad are starting to show up more often
on our cb hooks and following spinnerbait blades so they are getting closer to spawning. That should
make fishing sooo much better. The lake seems to be holding steady at 251/2 feet low and water temps are in the
low 70s. Catching most our fish on spinnerbaits, soft plastics and medium running crankbaits.

Re: Lake falcon guide service report - 04/09/19 03:31 AM

Iíve been off a couple of weeks and got back out the other day and took out
Philip and Oscar Saturday. The fishing is pretty steady and numbers in the 30-50 range
are about standard. The lake is holding steady and that has the fish shallow and still in
the backs of the creeks for the most part. You can catch them flipping, throwing a swimbait,
on a jerk minnow and small crankbaits pretty good. The shad spawn is just around the corner
and the squarebill bite should get crazy pretty soon. I just had May 7,8,9,10 open up, those are prime
dates for lake falcon and Iím sure they wonít last long. If youíve been thinking about coming down that would
be a great time. [Linked Image]

The shad spawn is underway down here and catching 60+ fish
in a day is not too hard when the wind doesnít blow 25. The lake
has fallen a little bit not too bad and we are at around 26 ft low.
Squarebills, swimbaits and big bite jerk minnows are
catching most of the fish on shallow rocky points and banks. Plenty of open

Re: Lake falcon guide service report - 05/09/19 01:06 AM

Had Heath and Laun out for a day and we had good numbers and a few nice ones.
They stayed and fished on their own the next day and Laun
found himself a Lake Falcon DD. Way to go Laun. The fish seem to be
kinda transitioning as we are are starting to catch some out a little deeper
on big bite jig heads and fighting frogs. You can still find plenty of smaller
fish shallow chasing shad with the occasional big one mixed in. The lake
level was on a pretty good fall but has slowed with the latest rains. We are
at around 27 1/2 foot low. I have plenty of June dates open and June is a fun month,
with the fish getting deeper and the heat not too bad. Call me for dates and trip info, thanks, Jimmy. [Linked Image]

Re: Lake falcon guide service report - 05/19/19 09:50 PM

Ok so add May to the craziness, the lakes now on a rise. The better
fish still seem to be deeper but it looks like there are fish getting shallow again
when that bite seemed to be slowing down. Go figure. Anyway like I said any fish
over 6 lbs has been in 16-18ft for my customers. Looks like you just got to keep
bouncing from shallow to deep. Med crankbaits, 5 inch tricksticks are catching most of
our shallow fish while big bite jig heads with fighting frogs are catching most out deep. [Linked Image]

Re: Lake falcon guide service report - 06/02/19 08:58 PM

Well they pulled the plug it seems like, the lake is on the fall.
I hate to see it but with the rains we had they are actually a little
behind. The only positive about the lake level drop, if there can be one,
is that the fish are BITING!! I finished up a 21/2 day trip with Les from big bite baits
and his daughter Kayla and they had an awesome trip. We had over 100 fish
with 25 lb bags all three days and shoulda had 34-35 lbs on our last day which
we only fished til 1130. Shallow running crankbaits, big bite pro swimmers and big bite
fighting frogs caught all of our fish. Most were in less than 5 ft on rock. With the lake drop
I doubt they will be that shallow for vey much longer but thatís where they are now. We had been
catching our bigger fish deeper but the last part of last week some really nice ones started
showing up shallow again. I have plenty of open dates available, call for trip info. Thanks, Jimmy. [Linked Image]

The last couple of weeks have had the lake and the fishing up and down.
Weíve had some great days and some you had to really grind it out.
The lake seems to be on a steady fall now and it really has improved
the bite, thereís almost no lake tougher in my opinion than Falcon on a rise, to a point
then once it stabilizes itís awesome but it looks like we donít have to worry about that for now.
Most of our fish are still coming fairly deep in 18-20 on t-rigged big bite fightin frogs.

Re: Lake falcon guide service report - 10/25/19 12:20 AM

Wrapped up a couple of days with Mike and Jerry.
We had a pretty good trip, caught around 80+ fish
and had 33-34 lbs on our best five today. Mike had our
big fish of the trip, a 8.37 lb beaut. Most of our fish came
deep 18-20ft on trigs. We did have a 7.32 in like 1 ft of water
on a spro shallow running cb. I’m starting to catch some real
shallow, the majority are small but not all of em. We’ve had really
good lake rises the last couple of years in the fall but it’s not
looking like it this go round, I’m keeping my fingers crossed.
The lake is right at 36ft low and falling. I’ve got plenty of open

Re: Lake falcon guide service report - 12/06/19 12:15 AM

The slow time of yr and the deer season had me off the lake for a bit.
I made it out today and the fishing is pretty darn good, numbers are ok and
quality fish are biting. I spent some time up shallow as this mild winter has the water temp
around 67 but with not much luck. The fact that we had no rise this fall still has the fish ‚Äúout‚ÄĚ
not main lake summer stuff but about half way bk in the creeks. All of my fish were in
8-12ft with the boat in 18-20. The only positive on the lake not rising is that it’s not falling
either, we are still sitting at around 35 1/2 ft low. Ramps at both ends still in use. I have
plenty of open dates, don’t make me go at it alone. In case I don’t post before the new year
I hope you all have a Merry Christmas and a great New Year.
