Fayette 5/28/2012 - 05/29/12 01:10 AM

We got on the water around 7:45am and headed to the dam. Fished there for about 15 minutes and decided if we were going fish any of our favorite reed lines, we better go now while the wind was down. It's crazy but all of the reeds we fish with decent water (3'), the southerly winds kill us. No sooner than I shut down the big motor, my Wife caught a bass on a crankbait about 50 feet in front of the reeds. While I put a worm on, she caught another. Bam, bam! I was thinking this was going to be an excellent day! I got rigged up with the right bait and hooked into a nice LMB too. In 45 minutes, in about a 200 yard stretch, we caught 7 fish.

Then, they just shut off. I guess the sun ran them off. We looked here and there but only caught 4 other fish. The biggest fish was about #3.5.

There were large numbers of shad, especially at the baffle dike but we didn't have any luck around them.

I believe getting on the water at the very first light would have been the ticket. I just can't get up at 3:30am, go to bed at 9:00pm, get up at 3:45am(Tues)and drive all the way to Mississippi.

If you other fisherman can, you will probably do well.

Thanks for the report. The morning bite is almost always better and if I am not on the water an hour before sunrise I call that a late start.

Fished for only two hours on Monday also since the real reason for the trip was to ensure boat motor was fixed. Anyway, I fished the intake area with cranks and plastics from about 10 to 12 and caught five fish. Same experience as others caught 5 the first hour and nothing the second.

A couple buddies and I are heading out there tomorrow. Gonna try and be on the water around 4am and get a little night action then get the prime time bite. Hopefully we tear into a lot of lips! I'll let y'all know how we do.

We had an awesome trip out on Fayette today. Two buddies and I got on the water around 4:30am but had no success with the night time bite. We caught our first fish at 6:00am and that's when the fish really turned on. We were throwing crank baits along the reed lines and caught about 10 fish before 6:30am. And these fish were smoking the bait!

After that bite shut off we moved spots to get some top water action. Again we stayed around reed lines throwing popping plugs. We kept with this pattern till about noon then called it a day. We ended up with about 30 fish. Biggest went 5#10oz with a few 4#ers in there. All fish were solid, smallest going 2#.

Saw a ton of forge, including massive tilapia. Fish definitely have plenty to grub on. Water temperature was 88-91 degree F. Most fish were caught in 2-9 feet of water. Good luck to anyone heading out there.
