The Falcon Report

The Falcon Report - 01/18/23 08:23 PM

Falcon level falling very slowly and we are just under forty feet low. Launching is no problem at either end of lake, on concrete in Zapata and off the shore at state park but not really a problem.

Some really good reports have been heard, but there are days when it is tough. Numbers range from three fish to fifteen or so. Seems every day is different.

Some shallow fish are showing up and spinner bait and flipping fish are becoming more and more common in the hardwoods.

But most fish are still coming in the eight to ten foot range, mostly on rocky ridges and points close to deeper water. Timing is a big part of it and when you land on the right spot at the right time it can be really good. Crankbaits and some jigs in these depths.

Water temps are from 60 to 68 depending on the location and time of day..
They aren't jumping on the bank but some really nice fish are being caught.

Crappie have been pretty good, with a lot of fish moving shallower and some fish in Tigers caught off hardwoods in about 6 feet of water. Still some on brushpiles but not like they were a month ago.

Call or PM me if you have any questions..

Fishing on Falcon has been the best we have seen in years. Last week saw dozens of big fish caught, and the exception was that you did not catch one or two over seven or eight pounds in a good hard day of fishing.

Traffic here is also way up from the past two years..

Mid lake south has been best.. Think rock.. Shallow gravel out to about twelve feet.. Square bills, senkos, mid-diving crankbaits.. Shakey heads with a senko on it.. Good Stuff..

Also offshore rockpiles have been good on the days the wind will let you fish it..

I'll try and post a more detailed report and some pics on my site later..

Falcon is still fishing very good, and during this moon phase we have witnessed the fish storm the shallows. Water temps are in the low to middle seventies.

The shad spawn is going full bore and the fish that are not in the shallows spawning are in the shallows pigging out.

With out a doubt we are seeing the best numbers and quality of fish we have seen in years, and I hear of several DD's every day this week.. With a few elevens and a twelve thrown in every once in a while..

If you ain't here it ain't my fault..

James, can you launch from shoreline at state park with 2 wheel
drive F150 or is 4WD a must have?

I have a 2 wd suburban and no problem, if by yourself you might get your feet wet.

Launching now out on the point that is past the official ramp.. Turn just past the ramp and drive Parallel to the canal out to the point.

Stop in and we'll discuss it.. It can be done with 2X4.. Launching still on concrete here in Zapata.

Fish still bit yesterday in the rain.. Last week they smoked em.. But weather kept most folks off the water over the weekend..

They are drawing water like crazy for irrigation.. Bad for us long term but the fish are liking the current..

Launching is fine, County Ramp open in Veleno. State Park the area"we call butterfly) is great, lake up no problem, never got rear wheels wet, 2 wd.

Caught 25 crappie, 9 bass(no biggies) several catfish. Rock is key for all.

Re: The Falcon Report - 04/24/23 07:42 PM

Water still rising.. And a good bit of water in the river.. We are up right at nine feet from our low about a month ago.. I can see a couple of feet +- coming this week.. But a lot of it depends on what IBWC does with releases here and at Amistad.

It is possible that we will be back on the concrete ramp at state park in ten days.. Maybe less.. But not for sure yet..

Fishing still good on anything rocky.. Stop by for the rundown..

What will become a hazard this week is the old Veleno bridge.. Which will be under water probably tomorrow night..

There are currently NO MARKING FLOATS on it!! If you don't know, ASK!
