Medina 3/28/21 - 03/28/21 09:05 PM

Torture is a good word for today. Massive wind, big waves, and gear failures is what I encountered- and a bunch of smallish bass. I got to the launch around 7 and almost went home it was so miserable. But then the rain stopped and the wind slowed a bit and I took the bait and got on the water by 7:30. I found some sheltered water in an arm and started finding the bass there too. I caught somewhere between 8 and 12 bass, I can't remember, plus at least 5 lost and also pulled in a sunfish and a White bass that was decent sized, the first one I've ever caught there. After a while the storm gods came out and it was like paddling in a hurricane to get back to the bay in front of the park. A lot of the time it seemed like the wind was hitting me from multiple directions making it almost impossible to move my boat and I took on a few gallons of water. After that I just stayed in front of the park, first casting and then trolling and believe it or not caught several bass trolling which almost never happens. I left around 1:00 because I was worn out and actually tired of fishing. There weren't many other crazy people out fishing, just a few boats that launched hours after I did and I only saw one of them catch anything, so I think I did pretty well considering. They seemed to all be waiting for the wind to die down but it never did today.

Side Note: With the wind alone I would have stayed home plain and simple!

Yep, I wasn’t fighting this wind. That Lmb looks like a Trout with that stunted nose.

The county park ranger said he watched me paddle against the wind for about an hour to make sure I would make it back. Then he didn't charge me, I guess he felt bad about the wind. It looks like my lure was about 1/3 the size of that sunfish, what was he thinking?

Nice...
Let me know if you want to go out in a bigger boat. I brought my sled down from WA and live nearby.

There are times I wish I was in a regular boat, mainly when it's windy.

Fishing from a kayak is always a challenge when fishing in the wind.
It's not hard to figure that if you paddle at 3 to 4 mph on a calm day, that going into a 15 to 20 mph wind is futile and you end up going backward more than forward.
I've fished from my kayak for several years and if the wind ever got to 15 I was looking for protected waters.
Even fishing from a full size boat in a 15 mph wind can be uncomfortable, but at least you have a motor to move about in the wind.

What is the ramp situation? Can I launch a 22 ft boat? Are the jet skiers and wake boarders out at Medina yet? Thanks in advance!

I don't know about boat sizes, the water seems fairly low that's all I can say. Since it was stormy when I was there there were only some people wading, but maybe there's more now. The park doesn't open until 8 though and you can get to the ramp before then through the side entrance.
