Boerne lake and Guadalupe River 12/27

Boerne lake and Guadalupe River 12/27 - 12/28/20 01:32 PM

I fought with the wind on Boerne lake early yesterday for 3 hours without a bite, though something very big breached about 20 feet from me and then disappeared. After that I went to the Guadalupe river and spend the rest of the day paddling and dragging my kayak through shallow rapids. I did manage to catch some bass eventually, though pretty small. I had a couple OK sized ones bite but not get hooked. Also saw a big school of carp, a couple catfish, a few sunfish (they would chase but not bite) and coolest of all, two spotted gars about 3 feet long cruising along the river bottom. Overall though there were not many fish for so much fishy looking water. I'm not sure if I caught spotted or Guadalupe bass, the pic is the biggest one which was only around 8-10 inches, but fun to catch. Oh and the water was cold. Boerne lake was 53 degrees. I didn't measure the river, but it felt colder than the lake, probably in the 40's.

Awesome post! Boerne Lake can be tough especially when it's windy. cheers

Side Note: I think your bass is a Guadalupe Bass! thumb

way back when boerne lake was awesome for some night fishing. big grass flat straight out from the ramp about 2/3 of the way across. black n blue craws and black buzz baits along the bank. had a lot of nights we caught multiple 3-7#.
this pic was (weird enough) dec. 31 where the creek starts, small rock outcropping on a spinner. was lake record back in 1990. been a while. lol
she was released back alive and kicking, held her in a 120 qt. cooler till the pic was taken. and I don't hold bass like that any more, lol.

if you still can access it, the river in town used to be a hoot for numbers, nothing over 2# but used to be all over by the little park.

used to be a meat market there, both sides of the bridge were good to walk.

Its still accessible and fishing the bank opposite of the park will produce some #4's and #5's and maybe larger if you're lucky. Back in the day before they built the apartments below the dam, we would catch some as big as #7 out of that creek all the time. Apartments came and the rest is history.
