Wheeler Branch Reservoir Fishing Regulations
ATHENS--Wheeler Branch Reservoir, a 180-acre impoundment located within the Paluxy River system in Glenrose, Texas, recently opened for fishing, and anglers need to be aware of the fishing regulations for the lake.
Texas Parks and Wildlife Department (TPWD) Inland Fisheries management staff from Waco have been cooperating with the controlling authority, the Somervell Water District (SWD), for several years to plan habitat features for future fish populations, stock a variety of sport fishes, and manage these fisheries for public enjoyment.
Stocked species include Florida largemouth bass, smallmouth bass, walleye, and channel catfish as well as bluegill, longear and redear sunfishes.
For largemouth bass, the length limit is a 14- to 21-inch slot. Bass 14 inches and less or 21 inches or greater in length bay be retained. Only one bass 21 inches or greater may be retained each day.
For smallmouth bass, the minimum length limit is 18 inches.
The daily bag of all species of bass is five, with no more than three being smallmouth bass.
For channel catfish, the minimum length limit is 12 inches with a daily bag of 25.
The daily bag limit for walleye is five, only two of which can be less than 16 inches.
There is no limit on sunfish species.
Fishing is by pole and line or rod and reel only.
