I am really wanting to stock Tilapia and Meadowlarks psot about Tilapia peaked my interest. Our Lake is 15-16 acres with Max depth of 40ft. Our ranch is Southwest Mills county. My question is if I stock Tilapia do you think they would live through mild winters? I know we haven't had any real hard winters the last 2 yrs. Would the depth increase their chances of survival? Whats ya'lls opinion?

I never expected them to survive East Texas winters in my ponds....but some have. Nature finds a way.

If the tilapia can find a spot in the lake that can stay above 52 to 53 degrees you are OK. It is hard to define mild winter. I would think most winters the tilapia would not survive Marble Falls. However, the past winter they likely would have. We had some tilapia survive in some of our club lakes as far north as Dallas. First time ever. So it is possible, just not likely.

I'd think 40' deep would help some survive. I was wondering the same thing about my ponds.
