Must be dishing out a chunk of money to BASS.

It's different. I like different. How many times can you go to Big Sam and TB?

I got a good laugh out of the article. It said Travis has become a top destination for Texas bass anglers. Have I missed the memo on this or what?

Re: BASSfest - 11/02/17 05:05 PM

What will the weights be to win?

45-50 pounds for 3 days??

Re: BASSfest - 11/02/17 05:07 PM

Sure hope it kicks out some better bags than FLW. The 10th place finisher in that tournament averaged less than 10 pounds a day for 4 days.

That made me laugh as well. I didn't realize everyone was flocking to Travis from across the state.

I don’t know how you can pick Travis when LBJ is right there next to it.

Re: BASSfest - 11/02/17 07:37 PM

I am personally excited about this tournament due to its proximity to San Antonio/Austin. Sure there might be "better" bodies of water to fish but maybe this one gives the event more space to layout its expo. It's all about promoting the sport in my eyes and this is a great area to do that in. As for the fisherman, they are going to bring there A game no matter what lake it's going to be. It's about finding the best 5 fish per day on THAT lake. Who cares if someone thinks there is a better lake for quantity or quality down the road. I want to see these anglers do work!

Its the Fairy Wand Invitational.

Re: BASSfest - 11/02/17 07:55 PM

Seeing as this tournament evolved from the Toyota Texas Bass Classic, having it near Austin and TPWD's headquarters makes sense to me.

Haha yeah, really. In their list of 100 Best Bass Lakes several months ago, when they were talking about Falcon, they also said that it was full; not real sure they do a whole lot of proofreading at Bassmaster.

Actually, Travis has been fishing well this past year for the most part. Me, I'm excited to see a new lake other than an East Texas lake.

Re: BASSfest - 11/02/17 08:32 PM

Years ago I worked at a marina on Travis all summer. In the morning we would pull boats out of a dry stack and put them in the water and in the evenings the reverse. But during the day it was pretty quiet with a lot of work on the docks maintaining, cleaning slips, etc. There are some sizable largemouth in Travis that are never pressured feeding on bluegill and crappie. Water is sometimes really clear and you could crawl up to the edge of a slip and watch them swimming around.

I guess it's a good thing there are lots of hotel beds in the Austin area - for all the hardcore bass fishermen flocking there from all over the nation. If I want to fish "somewhere different" I'll drive 6 hours to reach Falcon before I would drive 3 hours to reach Travis....

It's not like the DFW anglers would show up if it was up here. We'd be lucky to have a dozen DFW anglers show up if we had the Bassmaster Classic here. Lets see how the Austin, San Antonio anglers support Bass.

That's deffinently the case and proven by Texoma and Roberts in the past. The way Lewisville is fishing it would have been awesome to see if out there. I would have been a spectator for that for sure.

Hope it’s well attended and supported by the local community

I'd be more concerned with the enourmous waves created by recreational boats on Sunday. That place gets scary

Re: BASSfest - 11/03/17 05:33 AM

It's fishing pretty good. The last couple of times I've gone I've caught 50-60 bass, with 20 or so keepers in 5-6 hours. It's a lake that was down 60+ feet a couple of years ago and a TON of bushes and trees grew and then it got 60+ feet of new water. There's a ton of cover there now everywhere. There are many small fish, but they are healthy fat fish. It's going to be a lot better in terms of size in the next couple of years.

TTZ Tuesday nighters averaged 14 pounds for first place this year with a max of 24.98
TBT tournament last month that had 60 boats was won with 18.21
TTZ major tournament on travis last year was won with 21.26

I'm glad they are trying something different at least. Travis is a fun lake to fish. It can be brutal on the weekends though with party boats

The DFW folks supported the bejesus out of the E-50 when it came to Lewisville.. huge crowds every day. Just not many of us that are willing to drive to Frisco or to the third world country Chocktaw Casino is located in to watch a weigh in. I still say Bassfest at Roberts would have drawn twice as good if the weigh in and festivities were in Denton and not the middle of yuppieville. I don't know much about lake Travis, but those central/south Texas trails seem to draw a ton of boats.. will they show up to support it instead of fishing somewhere themselves is the question.

Its all about the attendance and money spent to put on this event. lbj would be kinda defeating what they are trying to accomplish having near a major city. Take a pretty big country singer and have a concert in what they call the music capital of Texas and bam the perfect setup.

Recreational boat traffic might present a challenge to the pros.

Re: BASSfest - 11/08/17 03:22 PM

I like the fact they moved it within striking distance of two major Texas cities. Having it in Lufkin last year seemed to be a predicted recipe for failure. I don't think the lack of support surprised anyone.

Guys don't forget, this isn't all about the weight of fish brought in. It's about the exposure of the sport and the anglers. Sponsors like crowds. Big cities usually equal big crowds.

Re: BASSfest - 11/08/17 06:17 PM

So why does every stop on the BASS or FLW tour have to be a "great" fish catching lake? I don't get it? If all of the competitors are fishing the same water, I just don't see the problem. I don't have a dog in this fight, hell I have fished in central Texas one time. Someone is gonna catch em, they always do. TPWD is located out there, plenty of facilities (and not a rodeo arena!!), beautiful scenery, what's not to like, other than that little school just west of I35. jab jab

Doesn’t BASS know to consult with the guys of the TTF before setting their tournament schedules.
