Bad hook placement - 09/26/17 02:02 AM
Hello y'all I've been using a weightless fluke with a gami 4/0 offset worm hook, hook up ratio is great been hooking fish very near or sometimes through the eye 😢 definitely not how I want to catch fish ideas on what's goin wrong here? Same result with loomis mbr 783 12# maxima green and a tsr 791 with 15# braid and a flouro leader. Maybe different hook? I had horrible hookup ration with ewgs so maybe one of ya pros can help.
Thanks

IMO it is the hook size. I have been using a slightly larger hook than normal on baby brush hogs and am seeing the same thing. I dropped back down a size. Same hook up percentage. Mine were right at or thru the eye also.
I throw a fluke a lot and have found out that a 2 ought superline wide gap hook works the best IMO

Try a Mustad 4/0 Ultra Lock Work Hood. Switch to a Strike King Caffeine Shad in Smokey Joe.
Use a 1/16 tungsten weight and 2 bobber stops to keep the weight about 1 foot above the Shad. It works.

I use either a 3/0 or a 4/0 Owner J hook. Hook up ratio is very high. I use a 4 power rod and 15# Invizx fluorocarbon or 12# P Line CXX.
I use this same set up for throwing Senko type baits Tx.rigged weightless also.
