Battlefield Reports from Fork BBS - 09/18/17 03:36 AM

Surprised one of these hasn't already been started. How'd you do? What'd you catch them on? Throw any 12/0 hooks with a 16 oz sinker at anyone?

I caught plenty of fish, but couldn't find the right size. Everything came on a wacky rig. Gave up and went looking for a big fish and had a brief hookup with a deep fish on a Carolina rig.

These tournaments get a bad rap, and certainly there are some idiotic things that take place. Everyone I encountered on the water was cordial and pleasant. The folks in my RV park were great as well. One couple came in for this and is staying until Berkeley.

That said, I've never seen more people fish in the middle of the boat lane as I did this weekend. The mouth of Birch had 4 boats at a time in the lane. Over behind the Minnow Bucket was the same thing. And speaking of boat lanes, it blows my mind how many people will run 50-60-70+ yards off the lane without a care in the world. Watched a guy north of 515 miss a buoy and when he hit a tree and killed the engine, tried to play it off like he meant to do it! Hilarious to see.

Can't wait to do it again next year.

Fished friday... we caught a few but i think we were fishing deeper than they wete living

Had some weird stiff happen in the morning. TONS of bait and bigger fish show up on graph but nothing eats. I mean PILES of bait. No love...

No isses with ppl, its crowded, and it is just part of the territory.

I will say this, i know your just idling graphing... but im fishing right here right now. Mark about where i am and move on, we will move on b4 long and you can idle to your hearts content... you doing circles on the spot with big motor is helping NOBODY

Nothing too bad and it was less crowded than I expected to be honest. Fished Saturday and Sunday, only had one instance that was slightly annoying. Launched nice and early at 5am and got to a spot we had picked out by 5:15. Tied up and waited for the start, guy shows up a 5:50 and gets right on top of us. Moved on pretty quickly, but that was a little annoying. If I can cast a weightless worm on to your deck you're too close. Especially when we're the only two boats on the point...

Didn't catch any money fish. Caught an exact 2.5 (on my scale) that was right at 17"... rolleyes

There was baitfish everywhere! I've never seen it stacked up like that before. Had the same issue. Was in the middle of it and couldn't get anything to eat.

Caught a lot of 14 inch fish.... caught 3-4 decent slots... caught a 16 1/8 bass that weighed 2.86 on my scales.. heart breaker.. Sunday I finally caught a couple money fish... got 17thfirst hour and 4th with a 2.20 the 12-1 hour. Tried to weigh a 3rd fish the last hour, but was bumped off... overall had a great time! Plus I won a little money playing poker! Cant wait for next year! Caught most my fish on road bed, docks, and dam area. I did see the 11 year old weight the pig in... pretty awesome... and saw the guy pull the 10.57 out of his livewell.. super long bass!

Years ago I was fishing a McDonalds on Fork. We could launch a 4am and start fishing at 6am. I got to my spot around 4:15 and laid down in the boat and take a quick nap. Woke up when I heard someone talking, raised up and there was another boat TIED UP TO THE BACK OF MY BOAT with 3 guys in it. [censored]. I ask what the heck are you guys doing. They said they didn't have a place to fish and thought they would just fish with me. Ask me how long it took me to tell them to get lost. These big bass tournaments bring out all the clowns.

My buddy lives on Fork and didn't fish Sealy.

On Saturday, he did a test...

Went out to deeper water, like 40ft+ and dropped two buoys. He started fishing that spot. There was zero structure in the area, no bait, no nothing. Totally dead spot, flat, 40 ft deep. Within 30 minutes, he had 4 boats around him. Within an hour he had 7 boats.

The best part....the rest of the day, even after he left, there was 4-5 boats on this spot and all day Sunday too.

LOL. Soooo many people treat that tournament like the lottery. And sometimes they actually win.

Glad you brought this up. Reminded me of the last time I fished the tournament. I have fished it probably 20 times. last time was maybe 2 years ago. Also on a Saturday my fishing buddy and I (who is filipino) where just out looking for a possible place to fish some deep structure, after lunch. I asked my partner to throw out a bouy he said are we fishing here? We where basically in the middle of lake over by the damn, nothing on graph, but fisherman within eyesight of us. My partners first tournament of his life. I just wanted to see what would happen if we fished around it for a minute and then backed off it. Like flies on a hamburger patty.
I cant remember how many boats came by and fished that bouy. I just left it there, we idled up a cove fished for like an hour. Came back out and even more boats where fishing the bouy. I put down my trolling motor slowly drove right in the middle of the action and retrieved my bouy. Should have seen the look on these guys faces. One guy said HEY what are you doing. I am getting my bouy. Why did you leave it here? My hat blew off and I was marking this spot to retrieve it later. We laughed about this all night.
