Need some Lowrance Info please

Need some Lowrance Info please - 07/16/17 04:04 AM

On the 2000 Basscat I just bought, it had these Lowrance items on them.
The previous owner did not know what generation the HDS 7 was, and he thought the Structure Scan
was the LSS-1 model.

So does anybody know what generation the HDS-7 is?
And I want to add another 7 to the cowl, so can I go with a gen 1 and connect it to the lSS-1 box ?
I would like to have one graph display maps/gps and side imaging.
And the other graph display down imaging and sonar.
And I would like them to share waypoints.

I would call LakeSide Trolling Motor Repair at lake Fork 903-383-3232 they can tell you what will work.

Appears to be a Gen.2. The Gen.1 are silver in color and Gen.2 are black. I believe you can go with Gen.1 or 2 and the NEMA 2000 network cable will allow them to share data.

After looking at you pictures again maybe it is silver and a Gen.1. LOL, Hard for me to tell for sure with the lighting. frown

Isn't the Structure Scan HD pictured the LSS-2?

Yes it does look like an LSS-2

It's a Gen1. All you need is a network cable to connect your second unit to the LSS1 and they will share waypoints. You can set up each unit to display whatever screens you want. You can have as many as 3 units networked on the LSS1. If you don't have a manual you can download one on the lowrance site. You don't need a NMEA network unless you plan on setting up a point 1 compass or other NMEA devices.

nwest10 is correct. I called it a NEMA 2000 cable and it is an eithernet cable that connects to the LLS-2. I stand corrected blush

Yep. Gen1. I have three of them linked together via Ethernet cable connected to my lss1 box. My waypoints transfer to the other units each time i mark something on one unit

He has an LSS-2 Structure Scan. The transducer module for those is about 10 inches long whereas the LSS-1 transducer module is about 6 inches. The "HD" denotes the LSS-2 I believe. Both the LSS-1 and LSS-2 boxes/systems are compatible with at least Gen I and Gen II HDS units. I don't mention HDS III simply because I don't keep up with what's compatible for it yet - but am betting still compatible.

There is nothing that prohibits mixing Gen I and Gen II on an Ethernet network. (You get Ethernet by default on the Structure-Scan box - that's the yellow connector cables that connect the SS box to each unit.) Ethernet is also the network that allows units to communicate with each other for data-sharing, not just for each unit to get Structure Scan. NMEA-2000 network allows the system to have such things as external GPS antenna/enhanced magnetic heading functions. I do not believe that NMEA can be used for sonar data-sharing and certainly not map data sharing, but this statement could be subject to correction.

Any HDS I or II will work fine with what you have, but there's one mapping catch if all aren't Gen II. Want to know what you have? Turn it on and go into the menu (settings area) where info about the unit is stored. That's where the unit will display a screen providing model, serial #, and even software version installed.

The mapping catch - Starting with Gen II units, the data on a mapping module (SD card) is shared between all Gen II units on the Ethernet network. This means that buying a single map "chip" gets you mapping turned on for all units on the network - when it's all powered up. Gen I doesn't do this.

Flippin is correct on everything he wrote. Def a gen 1 graph and a lss2. If you're gonna use them like you said "one for map & one for SI" then no issues sharing info.

One more question please-

If I wanted to put a Lowrance Hook-9 chart plotter/DI on the bow,
Can I also link it to my LSS-2 to share way points with the 7 on the console ?

No. There are no Ethernet ports on the hook series, has to be a HDS model.
