Which size, color for East Texas water?
Are they worth the money?

I like the medium size in bone. I've caught more fish on wopper ploppers than any other top water bait. They are brainless to use too

I've worn the props off one and caught 1 fish.
Guess it depends on the lake.
I like the 90 and 140 size in Bone.

I have had great success with them, but oddly almost no success using a constant retrieve. I started working them like a popper and the results followed. I have had no success on the 130, but love the 90 - Powder and Sooner.

The strikes are explosive. I like the 130 in Bone, Blue Blood or I Know It colors

I think that I saw them there today. If not it was at Gander Mountain and they were discounted some for the going out of business sale.

The academy in Lufkin carries them in the 90 and 130 series. I haven't seen the 110 series yet.

Only thing I've caught on one was 10lb stripers.

Re: Whopper Plopper? - 07/14/17 05:58 AM
I ordered mine from Academy 130 Bone and 130 Monkey Butt. I will be throwing them this weekend on Amistad for the first time. I am pretty impressed with the quality including the hooks.
I also use a slow retrieve, popping it every coupla seconds...I get zero with a fast retrieve ... I like the terminator color...
However, my top performer is yo zuri in clear as possible, and yamamoto pencil in 3 inch, 7/16oz, silver with black back...

Yeah I have a 90
in summer craw and wow explosive blow ups
I work mine like a pop-r but also a slow very slow steady retrieve is also very effective
But it's mainly about confidence if you're confident with the bait you can land big fish on a damm beer cap with a treble hook attached to it. 🤣

They are awesome lures and you can cover a lot of water. Not sure why some have had no luck but I read the same kind of post about guys who have no luck with a jig or other lures

Re: Whopper Plopper? - 07/14/17 11:32 AM
I just bought one a few days ago. I have used it the past three mornings with no luck. With that being said i have used other lures as well the last three days without a bite.......I will keep throwing it
Sometimes the fish just arent there, dang em...I can catch 15 on a friday, zero on saturday, 1 on sunday, 3 on monday, etc etc etc...lol...
I also like the crystal minnow color...looking fwd to seeing the 110 one of these days! Tried the huge one, and it was just too big for my taste...

You must be on Hubbard Nate!
It's a large buzz bait that you can kill without it sinking. Stop it. Pop it. I actually have gotten the biggest bites on a slow steady retrieve.

Awesome bait down here at Amistad! If you are getting short stikes and misses, change out the front hook with a red treble. It incresed my hook up ratios tremendously. JM2C
Hmm...red hooks...have a bunch here somewhere...gonna try that! Actually in Galveston, getting ready to fish tomorrow, so ill check em out when I get home...I think they have that one hook thats longer than the other two...

Re: Whopper Plopper? - 07/15/17 09:11 AM
WHopper Plopper has been purchased.
Academy in Tyler only has two colors....Black & some clearish shad color with a green back.
They'll be wet at 4a.m.
I had one blow up right in front of me as well...was standing in the water and BOOM! Scared the stuff outa me! That's why you should never give up on a retrieve....Sometimes they hit it late!

Wonder how it would do at night?? Could be deadly.

Re: Whopper Plopper? - 07/15/17 01:42 PM
Only caught bass on one in a private lake, no takers on a public lake in any area and about 20 different retrieves. Same with YM, I have literally caught one bass about three inches on it. Will be trying the Plopper here on the cape cod canal for striper.

I fished one at night here on Cape Cod for a solid hour and never so much as had a strike. Other top waters worked great.

I have only caught fish on it on a private lake but a straight retrieve did not work. Cast out lift the rod tip and have it "plop" and then let sit, always hit it while it was still, never moving.
Terminator. I find topwaters work best for me when they have as clear a finish as possible. Yamamoto 3in pencil the lone exception...

Just like any other lure, when it's on, it's on. Some lake are better than others.

Unless they have added a forth size to the WP line up and still have not put it on their website--the current sizes are 90-130-190.

I have been using a walking bait lately and have been doing real good. I have never used a walking bait before. They will flat out knock the dog snot out of it.

You can get 110's at Tacklewarehouse or Brannon's Bass Shop.

Weird. I was just on the River 2 Sea web site and they list the 90, 130 and 190. No 110. TW has the 110 listed only on the silent series. Strange deal

Bass Pro in Grapevine had a couple of the 110's as of this weekend. Black color only.
