C-Rigging at Night

C-Rigging at Night - 07/13/17 02:16 PM

I'm an admitted addict when it comes to night fishing.
I LOVE to C-Rig in the dark....in the past I almost exclusively used a black creature bait. Lately it seems that green pumpkin has been getting bit more.
I'm wondering if others see this as well, or if it's the "confidence factor"?
Hitting Palestine for some dark draggin' this weekend.... I've been told they're biting.

I can tell you I have spent quite a few years night fishing and my favorite bait to use is a 10" Berkley Red Shad Power Worm. That was the only night time Carolina rig bait I used on Fork but I also caught a 6 1/2 lber on Palestine one night on it.
But I will also say that it is not my favorite bait to throw at night. I have had some really good nights on Palestine with a Hilldebrandt Black spinnerbait with gold Colorado blade. I don't night fish as much these days but back in the day from Memorial weekend and for the rest of the summer and even into November and December at Monticello if I wasn't fishing a tournament I was night fishing on Fork, Bob Sandlin, Cypress Springs, Palestine, Cedar Creek or Ray Hubbard usually. There was nothing more fun than to have those nights on Fork when they were really hitting.

Do fish feed at night? Do the shad or whatever they are feeding on change colors at night? I used to fish dark colors at night because we are told that you are suppose to. Now I fish the same things that I fish during the day and they don't mind it not being black. Confidence has more to do with it than anything.

Same reason I throw a green pumpkin in chocolate milk. Fish seem to find it just fine

My favorite night time bait was a big jawtec ringworm in red bloodline. Caught tons of big fish on Rayburn and fork including a 13.30 one July full moon. I think as long as it's dark, has a big profile and moves water they will find it.

Jawtec? Man I wish I still had some of those great baits these days.
