Academy Shoppers!! Best cranking rod under $100 there? - 07/10/17 09:34 PM

I desperately need a cranking rod. Stopped all bass fishing for almost 10 years ago. love crank baits and it's time to bounce some off of some cover. I use deep, led and shallow ones. With that said...

What would crank specialists recommend at Academy for under $100 for all around cranking. Putting an IR120C on it (round reel). I'm old school.

Btw coming to Fork soon so it has to hold up to those monsters.

From academy for under 100 I'd say a falcon bucoo or one of the ducketts.

I really like the Academy brand H20 7'10" magnum cranker. I've had it for over a year and have nothing bad to say about it.

I would say the Duckett cranking rod.
I put a Lews BB1 on mine, wow, casts like a dream.
Very sensitive, and light weight.

I like the H20 Ethos rods for cranking from Academy. I use the 7'6" XH rod for medium and deep csranks, does well with the lipless baits as well. I have the 7' MH Ethos for the shallow stuff, on sale for around $100 combined. If not, maybe $120 for both of them, if you can find them. Hope this helps. Tight lines, keep safe and good luck. OH, if you are using straight graphite rods (those 2 are), back your drag off to about 3 lbs so a 3 lb bass can pull a little drag. That way you won't rip the hooks out of the mouth of the fish.

The magnum cranker iis a good rod for a composite rod, but so was teh BPS rod, too.

Lol, yep, I have 4 of them and 3 of them have crankbaits on them. It brought in close to a dozen on the squarebill on the rip rap this morning.

If you find another, buy it. It appears they do not make them anymore.

Give the new Buccoo SR a try.
It's great for launching big crankbaits and has pretty good sensitivity.

Thanks for the replies. I opted for a Berkeley rod I found at Walmart for $39. I questioned it until I caught a nice 5lber on Toledo bend. I'm not into tourneys anymore and the rod was perfect. Thanks again for your input.
