I didn't realize that 20 pound bags make for a top 100 lake these days.

You really hate that lake don't you Tom?!?! We spent a month practicing for Champs out there earlier this year and there wasn't a single day we didn't catch a 5+ and most days we felt like we ha put together a 15-20# bag. Obviously with the huge weather change on tourney day that didn't hold up but we still caught an 8 on tourney day.

That lake is pretty good as far as I am concerned. The biggest issue is those fish have a history of moving more and faster than any other lake I fish.

WOW, Lake Texoma, ten times bigger then Lake Waco.

Seems like it would take forever to graph that lake.

Re: Bassmaster top 100 - 06/29/17 05:32 PM

Yes. Thank God our Club finally got sick and tired of getting our butts kicked there every year and took it off our schedule. I think the overall fish population there is below normal and it's he!! on a boat with all the timber. Unless you fish there a lot, it's brutal to pattern. The Elites showed that twice, especially on MLF. Was there a huge fish caught? Yes. Were there numbers caught? No. I can think of 20 lakes I would prefer to fish over the toilet that is Ray Bob. Although I do miss the guy here on TFF that used to get REALLY worked up when you called it Ray Bob. grin

No doubt...if you don't have your own "lanes" marked then running up North of Wolf Island is very dangerous. The fish population has made a huge rebound after the floods from a couple of years ago. If the grass will come back, I think the lake will be insane. The MLF deal showed out the way it did because the lake was low and it was late October when most lakes are tough because of turnover.

Re: Bassmaster top 100 - 06/29/17 05:46 PM

I think it is funny they put it higher than Texoma. I fish Roberts regularly and it is what I consider my home lake, but I always catch more fish at Texoma any time we go up there. The 14" size limit, killing the vegetation, and especially the tournament pressure have hurt Roberts big time! The floods were nice a couple years ago though, lots of brush to flip now!

Barrett will not be pleased that his lake made the soon to be destroyed list... I mean BASS 100. bolt

I'm glad they kept Lewisville off the list. It has smoked Ray Roberts this year. For that fact Lewisville has smoked a lot of Texas lakes

Texoma should be drained, so should Waco. Squaw, please. I suspect this list is flawed.

I'd like to know how they came up with this list! Squaw isn't even the best power plant lake in tx!

Re: Bassmaster top 100 - 06/29/17 10:36 PM

Heck Possum Kingdom is the best lake going around here right now. It takes over 30lbs. to win any of the club tourneys out there right now.

Re: Bassmaster top 100 - 06/29/17 11:59 PM

I take these rating with a grain of salt & a LOL. #10 on their list is Falcon, and it should be up there. But when they make statements as "But right now Falcon is full, and the bass have responded accordingly".
Falcon sits at 35+ feet low & hasn't been full for years. It makes me question their list.

Re: Bassmaster top 100 - 06/30/17 03:47 AM

You are 100% correct. I have spent 35 years of my life there and know it well, the lake record is just south of 14lb's. 10's and 12's are every spring. 25 lb sack's are a regular and Ray Roberts has the next state record in it for sure.

Re: Bassmaster top 100 - 06/30/17 04:43 AM

Good to see!

I fished Oahe again in SD last week while visiting family... They are surprised when I tell them how highly it's ranked as a small mouth fishery and can hardly believe it. Hardly anyone fishes for them out there. Hard to blame them with the walleye bite being as good as it is.. But after we had our limit of 'eyes I convinced them to pull up within casting range of a rocky bank, tied on some artificials and we whacked a few pretty quick. Good to see the Dakotas get some love for a place so overlooked for bassin'!

Re: Bassmaster top 100 - 06/30/17 12:02 PM

Sturgeon bay fished tough this year. Ultra clear water (zebra muscles) has moved fish way out. The Sturgeon Bay Open this year had more zero's reported than I have ever seen. Big cold water takes a long time to recover after the beating it got a few years back when it was rated #1.

Re: Bassmaster top 100 - 06/30/17 01:32 PM

Pretty cool seeing my home lake of Mille Lacs at #1 but at the same time it definitely didn't need anymore press. After the AOY last September the lake is completely packed. I have buddies that go up there during the week and say that there are bass boats on every spot. The fishing is still incredible though. Tons of 4-6lbs smallies being caught all over the lake. I just hope the added pressure the next few years does not hurt the lake.

Wow IMO Chickamauga & Guntersville (just to mention only these two lakes) outrank several of the Bassmasters top 20.

I will go for Mille Lacs being #1. I was up there in June. Sight fishing for 4#+ smallies was a blast. The number of cruisers we saw was ridiculous.Hoping to go back next year for 3 days of fishing.

You need to recheck your source on that one. I live on the lake and the only good bite right now is the catfish.
