Where to park truck

Where to park truck - 06/27/17 01:38 PM

We are headed to Rayburn next week taking the camper and boat. My brother is going as well and offered to tow the boat so I would only have to pay for gas in one of my vehicles. The issue is that I live in Springtown and he lives in Mesquite. I don't want or relish the thought of my wife having to tow the boat to Mesquite to meet up with my brother because I don't much relish the thought of following her while towing the camper up that direction either!
Him coming to get the boat next week won't work either as he has no place to park it until we leave.
Our route would keep us on I-20 and I'd like to stay as close to there if at all possible. The two best options I can think of are meet at the Balch Springs Police Department and leave the truck there OR the Seagoville Walmart and leave it there. Which do you think would be best?

I wouldn't leave it at the Seagoville Walmart.

Why not have him come to your house and spend the night and leave from there?

That would be a good idea if we weren't all leaving after work on Thursday. Want to be down there for the topwater bite Friday morning.

I don't know how long the drive is but worst case is you go drop the boat off Wednesday night at his house.

Isn't Balch Springs to Mesquite like 10 minutes?? How long do you need to leave your truck? If an hour or less to get things swapped over I would leave it at Wal Mart or another big parking lot. I may be misunderstanding the timelines.

Springtown. It shows over an hour to mesquite and it goes thru Dallas traffic.

you might consider how much it will cost to tow the trailer and camping space and compare it to all riding together and renting a cabin or something there but that's me. I would probally spend the whole trip worrying about my vehicle instead of enjoying the trip.

Not a cabin big enough, I've got 7 in my crew plus my brother and his wife....have to take two vehicles regardless.

Yeah I'm talking about towing the boat and camper with my two vehicles that way on the way out of town, possibly meeting him along the route or near the route, swapping my boat onto his truck, parking my truck and leaving it wherever from Thursday evening until Sunday afternoon.

I may take it to the place he works Wednesday and leaving it there in the secured lot there. Then I still have the issue of having to go home and picking up the boat after we get back. With traffic these days it's dang near 3 hours round trip from my house to Mesquite and back.

I work in Balch Springs and I wouldn't leave my vehicle anywhere there over night!!!

Terrible crime rate and you can toss a rock to a not so nice area of Dallas

How about this:

Two vehicles make it to Balch Springs. Park truck/camper at retail parking lot. Unhook boat. You or your wife stay with boat/truck/camper. The other drives to Mesquite to pick up brothers truck, leave your truck at his house. Head out. Reverse on the way home.

That way, your truck is safe at his house and it should not add more than 20 to 30 minutes each way.

Another thing I've done in the past:

Call one of the newer hotels off of 20 headed out of town. Ask them how much it would cost to park your truck there for a few days. The newer hotels seem to have good video surveillance.

This sounds like the best plan. May go ahead and do it this way.
