Berkley makes some hard baits also

We've custom painted berkley baits for customers before just for these specific tournaments. I was told that was 100% legal.

Sebile is owned by Pure Fishing, the same company that owns Berkeley. Not "made by Berkeley". I'd ask the tournament director for clarification.

Yes, last few years, the rules clearly stated that any brand in the Pure Fishing Company was approved; if I remember correctly, Sebile and Johnson were mentioned by name in last year's rules.

This year's rules state "use Berkley baits exclusively"

On the entry form, the following number is listed for questions regarding the rules, etc.

Re: Berkley hard baits - 10/12/16 02:56 PM

I've fished this tournament in the past and we've always been able to use Sebile baits, but I didn't see anything in the rule referring to Seblie baits unless I overlooked it.

Special Rules:
• All contestants must use Berkley baits EXCLUSIVELY during this event. This now includes the NEW Berkley Hard Baits-Pitbull, Bad Shad, Warpig, and Cutter hard baits.
• Spinner bait frames, jig heads, buzz bait frames, ect may be used only when broken down to terminal tackle where ALL skirts and plastics have been removed and replaced with ONLY BERKLEY PRODUCTS.
• All terminal tackle must include a “functional” full length Berkley skirt and/or Berkley soft plastic.
• Non-Berkley skirts and soft plastic trailers are NOT permitted.

Re: Berkley hard baits - 10/12/16 04:40 PM

I already called Bass Champs and Sebile is still good to use, but it's not on this years rules. I talked to the lady at the Bass Champs office. I would also call and confirm just to be safe. Wouldn't want to mislead anyone because I didn't get the right person.

When you pick up your packet, look around the Berkley tent. They usually have all valid brands for sale! Pure Fishing Big Bass just doesn't roll off the tongue as easily as Berkley Big Bass! cheers, good luck, and be safe!

The new Academy Sports in Greenville has a lot of Berkley hard baits on clearance. They were around $3.50 or so.

That Is the one thing about tournament rules, even though it may say one thing, they can always be up for interpritation. Bring the baits with you and once you go to register in person make sure you talk to the director and not just a staff member. The director is the one that has final say on all rules. Best of luck this weekend to all those fishing, I look forward to seeing y'all out there.
