Swimbait/A-rig rod under $200 - 04/25/16 10:41 PM

Looking for the best swimbait and A-rig rod for under $200. A couple things I don't do at all. I assume I'd be able to throw these on the same rod, if not please speak up

For heavier A-Rigs and smaller swimbaits, I've been using a 7'6 Heavy action Loomis E6X for both. You could also go with a 7'11 MH Shimano Crucial Swimbait Rod for lighter A-Rigs and larger swimbaits. I've been throwing the 7-inch Convicts on the Shimano Swimbait rod. You can also flip with the 7'6 Heavy Loomis, and the Crucial is a phenomenal rod for 10XDs and 1 oz bladed jigs and the magnum spoons. Both are under $200 and you can use both all year long.

Not a kistler klx arig rod. Braid destroys the cheap inserts.

Irod Genesis II awesome rods!! They make one just for A-rigs and they make some for swimbaits. I use the jr swim rod for 6 inch hudds and smaller swimbaits. You could probably use either rod for both. Check them out on tackle warehouse or Fun n Sun carries them too!

Powell Max 3D

I'd seriously take a look at the 795CF. For the price, these rods are hard to beat. You get a sensitive, lightweight rod for under $190. The Max series of rods have been around for a while now and they're tried and true. I think you'll be pleasantly surprised at these rods.

If you like longer handles, check out the okuma guide select and the daiwa swimbait rods. If you like shorter handles then iRod large swim. I have Okuma and the iRod, both are great rods for the price range you mentioned.

I use a Shimano A rig rod which is 7ft 9inches in length. The Dobyns Fury did not exist when I bought the Shimano.

The reel I really like to use on it is a Lews Super Duty 5.5-1 gear ratio.

Thanks for all the input. I'd be throwing swimbaits like the savage gear glide swimmer and river2sea s-waver.

Another good rod is the Dobyns Champion 795 for larger baits, but then again I haven't tried the Dobyns Fury line so I don't know how the two rods compare to each other. It is over the $200 price point unless you find a used one.

A buddy of mine picked up a new Phenix rod the other day for swim baits. I was impressed with the rod, very light and well balanced. About $180.

There's a dobyns fury swim bait rod, I don't have one of them, but dobyns rods haven't ever let me down. I don't think you could go wrong with buying it. It should be near perfect for a-rigs as well.

For the price ($109), I've been pleased with this rod. I'm sure a more expensive rod would blow this one away, but I've thrown mid-sized swimbaits (2- 4.5 oz) all day and felt fine with it. I have the heavy action.
