Boat insurance - 12/28/15 02:36 PM

Just got a letter that current insurance folks no longer offer boat insurance. Is there anything out there besides Boat US?

Allstate. Call Gary Tongate. He is in Arlington. He is also a long time fisherman.

I recently shopped for new coverage for the two boats I own.

For price and coverage, I chose:

Michael Wallace

National Boat Owners Association

800-248-3512 ext. 3008

Coverage is from Safeco.

they are all Ok right up until you actually need to make a claim.

I can tell you that Progressive, besides being priced right, has an outstanding claim service.

When my boat was totaled they paid what was stated, and quickly.

When we got to the fishing gear I was overwhelmed by what they paid me. Yes, I provided good documentation on my 20 year old reels and gear but their response was way above average.

Another 1 that recommends Bob, get an agreed value policy. I did and had a claim during the summer after hitting a stump and bending my propshaft and took it to Rockwall Marine two days after dropping it off the claims adjuster came out and they had a check two days later and in two weeks from the day I dropped it off I was back on the water.

I am currently with Boat US and have not heard that they are going out of business? Why are they dropping you?

Progressive. Had it with them since 2001. Replaced my lower unit several times no issues. Great claims service.

robertd2119, my policy was thru Bob at World Wide but the company that he used to write the policy is no longer able to write in my state (TN). They are searching for another company that can write in TN and I am also searching for an alternative before my coverage lapses in late January.

All you need right here. 1/2 what I was paying w/State Farm for better coverage. Best plus to their coverage is they cover your boat for the entire contractual amount in the case of a total loss. No depreciated value regardless of the age of the boat. If you pay for $50,000 coverage you will get $50,000 towards a new boat regardless of the "book value" in the case of a total loss. Honestly never had to make a claim but many others on here said their claim process is stellar!
