Looks like a hybrid of a bass boat and walleye boat

Re: Ranger New Z522D - 07/15/15 10:37 PM

Bet you could buy a pretty nice place at the lake for what that cost.
Well nice for me anyway.

Re: Ranger New Z522D - 07/15/15 11:41 PM

Look at the tires, Okhissa.

The 20 foot boat is parked far behind the 22. For an exaggerated frame of reference.

Ranger, Skeeter and Triton (perhaps others) have tried for years to gain traction with a 22' boat.

The bottom line is a 21' boat performs better than a 20 or 22 foot boat. 20 or 21? Speed or ride? The 22 ft bass boat is and will always be irrelevant to the subject.

Why does all your pros drive the 20'6" inch boats then.

Re: Ranger New Z522D - 07/16/15 12:37 AM

My pros? I'm not a sports agent.

Forget xtra inches. For the sake of discussion, let's assume these boats are 20 and 21 feet with 250 SHO motors. The 3rd boat is a 22 ft. Skeeter or Ranger with the same 250hp Yamaha SHO.

Who crosses the finish line first?

How come everything has to be about speed? The 22 footer might cross the finish line first in 3 foot swells. And Triton has had a 22 footer before, TR22 and have come out with one again.

If I lived up north still that would be the boat for the conditions. I would venture to guess southern bass fishermen are not the targeted buyers.

Trick question. None because they all blow up before the finish line.

Like the glitter on the white first time I've ever seen that, nice boat, way bigger than my 520.

Re: Ranger New Z522D - 07/16/15 05:46 AM

needs the 400r to get out of it's own way i bet, but it's probably really good fishing in the rough offshore stuff..

Re: Ranger New Z522D - 07/16/15 10:26 AM

The z520c/z521c are such beautiful boats. That thing is...weird looking. The transom is kind of squared off and the consoles are just awkward looking. I'd have to see one in person before passing judgement.

I can't see needing all that extra storage (mostly in the back). The idea of a 22' handling that much better is great on paper, but at the loss of fuel economy, manuverability, and performance (think hole shot...not just top speed). A bass boat is never going to handle like a big deep V-Hull boat, period. Making bass boats longer and longer is kind of like taking a dually truck and lowering it to handle better. Its an uphill battle and there is a point where you have to consider switching platforms if the ride becomes more important than fishability. Just my .02.

Re: Ranger New Z522D - 07/16/15 11:34 AM

As a getting "older" guy who just likes to fun fish, occasionally fishes a tournament or two and every so often takes the wife and one of the older boys out, this is right up my alley. Big, roomy and comfortable - At my stage in life I want convenience and comfort. BassCat has done it with their Jaguar and I'm sure the other manufacturers have too. For those who can afford it, I'm sure it will be a perfect platform. Sure is pretty. If I was in the market, it would certainly be on my list.

Re: Ranger New Z522D - 07/16/15 01:04 PM

the "D" is for Destroyer Class - you need tall gunnels for rouge waves on the great lakes... I want to see how this thing sits in the water - it's either really tall of has a 24 inch draft

That deeper V hull looks like it would be awesome in the swells. I dunno about the skinny water tho. . .

The 20' with out a doubt 9 times out of 10.

And that's why most pros run 20' boats.

I'd sport it. Why not. you don't buy a ranger to win races anyway.

I can't imagine that drag racing was in mind when they designed that beast.

Something tells me that it can outrun most of the basschamp's field on Rayburn in January. You don't buy a Tahoe to race around town.

Careful with a boat deck that big. F-18s will be lining up for the number 3 wire!

"Back-Trolling Mobile" not a shallow water bass boat. Most of these will have kicker outboard on the back.

Does it have a place for a kicker on the transom?

Is this the new breed of Walleye boats?
