Fish rips the rod out of my hands

Fish rips the rod out of my hands - 06/24/15 02:08 AM

Solid 5 pounder owned the fight for the first 20 seconds, in my defense I have really bad carpal tunnel in the hand I hold onto the rod, but I don't know how much that effected this, that fish was strong!

There have probably been many mean five pounders that have gotten the best of all of us. Wonder how many of those lost freight trains I never got to see that were really just a 5 with a bad attitude.

Man nice grab tho. And good thing you stuck him well, that fish had plenty of time to get off and stayed pinned.

I was cranking the dam on Lewisville 2 summers ago, kinda bored and not paying attention, something hit my DD22 and my rod shot out of my hands like it was connected to a submarine. It hit the water like a javelin and I never saw it again. I dunno what hit it but it wasn't a bass. My guess is a big yellow cat just because of the ferocity of the strike, and the weight. It was a REALLY heavy fish, or it felt like it was for the half a second I felt it. I was pissed at first but the more I thought about it the more impressed I was. Fish 1 me 0.

Now I know what it means when someone says "it nearly pulled the rod out of my hands"

I prefer that to the fish spitting the hook out right in front of me

I've wondered this for years. My PB is 11.25 and it felt like I snagged a towel. Next cast I thought I was going to break the world record with how hard it was pulling. Not even 5 lbs lol

only way this could be better, is if you fell in, got it, and landed fish floating on your back...

good job

Funny video. This happened to me about a week ago down in Port A when I set the hook on a gator trout. I'm now I'm the market for a new squarebill setup

Thanks guys, the only reason I moved so fast is it is my new favorite combo, my old favorite combo is at the bottom of a river because I dropped that one when I tripped on the back of my buddy's boat. I wasn't gonna come home and tell the wife I need another new fishing rod....lol. About 8 years ago I had a smallie do the same exact thing only it was on a buzzbait, got that one back and landed the fish as well.

On a side note a 5lber in MN is a pretty big fish, obviously there is bigger but our state record is only 8lb 15 oz

Same thing has happened to me and amazingly like you, I was able to grab the rod before it sunk and land fish fish. Good video!
