There are a lot of spawners on the south end, and the frog bite was pretty good for me this past weekend on the north end.

Toledo is soo big it rarely gets muddy on the south end. Typical places like back of major creeks and the more north you go can get dirty

With the unreal numbers of fish in Toledo, im sure you can still find bedding fish above the bridge. Lower third of the lake is your best bet. Both LA and Tx side

South creeks and bays are great. Look up Mr.Blitz spinnerbaits and get a few in the color "firecracker" and throw up towards shore. I've caught tons this time of year and that is the only moving bait I use. I've tried other brands and colors like it with out the same results. Also it is important to get the 1/2 oz one. For plastics I use either black lizards 6-7" or watermelon ribbon tail/ ring tail worms I. 6-7". Can't remember the name of the creek we stay in but it's the next up from buck.

Almost forgot - take ALL the gear including extras to rig up Carolina rigs with 3/4oz and 1oz weights and #3 size hooks and smaller watermellon creature baits!
Only tackle stores around are over on Louisiana side so you want to take plenty!!
God Bless and good luck shipmate!! thumb

I fished last Thursday-Sunday. You don't need to leave Patroon to catch fish. We caught 10-20 fish in the morning on a frog in patroon then went ledge fishing the rest of the day. Lots of fish close by ya

Re: Toledo Bend 1st timer - 05/07/15 01:13 PM

One last thing, make SURE you know where you can get gas for your rig on the water from where you will be fishing. I didn't have to, only 90 Johnson, but larger rigs with much bigger engines and the mere size of the lake, you will want to know.
Anyone on here who can post and help him out?
I wish I could ......
God Bless

Holly Park Marina shows they have gas

Re: Toledo Bend 1st timer - 05/07/15 08:15 PM

Holly Park has gas including non ethanol gas and a decent little tackle section. They have one tank set up on waters edge for filling from the water if you ever need it. Some good biscuits in the morning as well. You can catch all you want in Patroon. No need to be trailering down south.

I agree the bend is hot right now. Find some grass, fish are soon to follow. Should be a blast as Tbend is hotter now then it has been in years. Have fun and good luck!
