In my experience, Fluoro does not have as much initial stretch as mono thus creating one of the issues with break-offs on the hookset. Fluoro will stretch just fine but not as much as mono on the initial hookset. I go down one power of rod with fluoro than what I would use with mono. I use the San Diego Jam knot with 15 lb. or less and the Palomar with 17 lb. or larger. Just be careful when tightening down the knot with the Palomar. Don't over crank the tag end.

The uni slip is the best knot in my opinion, with all types of lines. It is extremely easy to tie once you you get the hang of it and I can tie it very quickly. The San Diego Jam is good to, but the Uni is almost 100% strength and very consistent.

You are absolutely right but many people do not tie it correctly and it fails and they blame it on the knot, so they either need to learn to tie it correctly or choose a different knot.

I don't have a problem with break offs but how do you tie it incorrectly? Not being a wise guy, just got me thinking maybe I'm doing it wrong.

Common errors with the palomar. --the loop twists/crosses as it goes over the hook, causing it to cut into itself. --the loop gets cinched above the overhand knot instead of over/around it. If the loop is cinched above the overhand knot, it can cut into the main line.

To correctly tie a Palomar knot you must make sure the lines are parallel to each other and not twisted, as you tie the overhand knot. Next slip the loop over the hook. Loosely pull the overhand knot away from the hook and it will form a figure 8, now pull the tag end and the main line slowly and the figure 8 will be getting smaller as you do this. Wet the line and tighten it to the eyelet but make sure the loop that went over the hook tightens at the back of the knot, right at the eyelet of the hook. The double line on the eyelet of the hook MUST be side by side and not crossed. If these lines are crossed forming an X your knot will break. Mono. and copolymer lines are more forgiving but fluorocarbon is not.
