I LOVE our State Parks

I LOVE our State Parks - 02/13/15 09:49 AM

I am a big State Parks fan. I fish them as often as I can. Most of them have small lakes that are well managed and have MONSTER bass in them! I live close to Mineral Wells State Park and have fished it a thousand times. Its solid rock and have caught many DD's in it. I went yesterday and just walked the banks hoping to catch something. The second cast I hook up, it pulls a ton of drag then finally pulls off. Two casts later I'm on again and after a short fight get broke off by what felt like a real nice one. Another cast later and I'm hooked up with a nice five pounder. All in about twenty minutes of me getting there. The bite turns off just as fast but I walked away feeling vindacated from so many days of catching nothing on other area lakes! Did I mention I LOVE OUR STATE PARKS!!!

Me too!!! my family and i are on a mission to camp at every state park in Texas. Only thing I hate is the service when it comes time to make reservations via internet or telephone.

My favorite is Isle Dubois Park at Ray Roberts.
My brother in law caught this toad there in July a few years back off the bank. We go back there every year and catch fish from the shore wading.

Is the boat ramp open at mineral wells?

No The boat ramp is way out of the water. Kayaks or canoes is about all that can get in there right now. It has to be something you can carry as the closest water access is about 80-100 feet. They wont let you use the ramp to get closer.

My absolute favorite is Daingerfield. I often wonder if God didn't make that place just for me.

I used to love camping and fishing at Purtis Creek State Park. Too bad they killed off all the grass. much harder to fish in my opinion.

Anyone fished Granger Lake State Park? I have been there a few times while eating lunch in the area and the lake looks great for fishing so wanted to know if it was worth dragging the boat up there. Any help is appreciated!

My personal best came out of Purtis Creek BEFORE they killed the grass.

Mineral Wells SP is a good place to fish and a beautiful park. Pray for rain!

Tyler SP has produced one( maybe two) Sharealunkers. It's stocked with rainbow trout every winter so it is a year round good lake in a beautiful setting.

Daingerfield is usually good, but its either really on or really off, not much in between. Beautiful lake any way you cut it.
