Glass bead on texas rig? - 02/13/15 12:47 AM

Does anyone use a glass bead on a t rig like you do on a c rig? When do you use one?

I use one at night a lot, just for the added sound.

I usually don't but that is just out of habit. I certainly would add to the sound of the rig. If you use a tungsten weight don't use a glass bead, use a plastic one.

In certain situations yes!- it can be a REAL good thing.
My night fishing pb was with a tx rig and brass/glass bead.

Glass beads with a tungsten weight will produce the most sound, although the glass bead breaks if it hits something hard ( rock etc.) with tungsten weight on the cast. Then your line gets nicked or cut. Plastic beads are for looks or knot protection only, no sound.

The plastic bead still makes a sound when the tungsten weight hits it, just not as loud as a glass bead and the plastic bead won't crack and cut your line.

Brass n glass is the way to go.

tried it, but dont like it. hangs more debris. use a worm rattle for sound if you really need it.

Had plastic bead and tungsten weight on my 2 biggest fish last year. For structure fishing I use a bead, pitching cover I don't unless I switch from worm to punchbait without changing hooks.

I do most of the time especially in muddy water. Makes more noise bouncing off stuff.

Try both in same or similar situation/conditions. Go with the one that works best.

Tungsten bead on craws

Re: Glass bead on texas rig? - 02/13/15 04:53 PM

Sometimes. But I only use tungsten worm weights so I use plastic beads. And they do make noise, but more muffled than tungsten or brass on glass. zaspook, the glass bead doesn't break from hitting something hard like a rock, though it could. 99% of the time the tungsten weight is what breaks your glass bead causing cuts in your line. Tungsten and glass, NEVER!

Glass bead with lead and plastic with tungsten....

Glass and Tungsten don't play well together

Re: Glass bead on texas rig? - 02/13/15 05:44 PM

I use a bobber stopper about 1/4 of a inch above my glass bead, especially in cover. I can't tell you how many fish i've caught, letting it sit in cover and giving it slack line and just moving the rod tip, letting the bead do the talking....lol

Not trying to hijack but since on the lines of t rig,do you think the painted bullet weights make a difference the ones that have eyes

If the water is stained or muddy, absolutely. Glass, not plastic.

Re: Glass bead on texas rig? - 02/13/15 09:22 PM

I don't know if it helps me catch anymore fish. I've fished next to people using the same thing without and catch the same amount I have. Sometimes more sometimes less... I do like the fact that it protects your knot a little better by not getting hammered by the weight. Overall I think lure placement and presentation will trump a glass/plastic bead.
