I would have baked half of it with a lemon-butter sauce and battered and fried the other half.....

RIP Raybob giant. The fish was kept for a skin mount. The man can do whatever he wants with it though... It is his fish. Congrats.

There are plenty of big ones in Ray Bob. Since i landed that fish I have a hung a couple more that where huge but the zebra muscles got me. I either broke off or just got hung up. There are more zebra muscles in the lake than I thought there was. I hung an old anchor with my anchor the other night. It was covered in zebra muscles as was the line attached to it. Them damn things are sharp!! And yes that fish will be dropped off at Lake Fork Taxidermy on the way to the McDonalds.

Beautiful fish.
I've been wanting to try that lake.
What is the best place to launch coming from the west side of the lake (I-35W). Preferably with a dock
Thanks

Lake Ray Roberts Marina is ok havent used it in years. You can also just cross the dam and hang a left into Isle Dubois State Park they have a great boat ramp. You can also take Lone Oak road up north a little was off 35 and launch at a boat ramp there, I have not used that ramp since 96 so no idea what it is like now. I use Jordan because it gives me the access I need to fish my spots. Main lake points with structure are holding fish in day time. No idea where they go when the sun goes down. Big bass are feeding on crappie that are holding tight to the structure. Hope you have fun its a great lake to fish. If the bass fishing gets tough just turn around and catch a few hundred sand bass lol.

Re: Better pic of my 11.2 on Roberts - 08/27/14 08:31 PM

I have been having difficulty breaking off CR's. I think that it may be due to the Zebra Muscles. I have been breaking between the weight and the hook regularly when fishing deep and have one on of any size. Maybe I'll switch back to crank baits. I broke off some, but not nearly as much as dragging on the bottom. This spring when I fished cranks bouncing off of the rocks, I regularly hooked into a Zebra.

I went up there and looked at Johnson Creek Stat Park. Nice place and even has a fish cleaning station, if I ever do catch something I want to clean.
Thx for the help

I've seen so many reports on how tough that lake can be.

That says a lot about your catch.

Great fish. That girl looks nice and healthy too. Not all beat up.

Thanks for posting.

Your right she was absolutely perfect not a scratch on her. Looked just like my aquarium bass only much fatter.

Mounted

Re: Better pic of my 11.2 on Roberts - 08/31/14 10:35 AM

That sucks you killed a healthy breeding female when all you could've done is take her length and width measurements along with some pictures and the taxidermy could've made you a replice fiberglass mount that looks exactly the same. Skin mounts don't last forever but the fiberglass ones do. Then the big girl would still be alive.

Wow I didn't know you could do that! Thanks for letting me know. Probably no more big ones left in that lake so I would not fish there for a long time.

Lots more even bigger left.

Re: Better pic of my 11.2 on Roberts - 08/31/14 04:19 PM

Oh there's plenty of big ones in that lake!! That's why it's my favorite lake to fish. It just sucks seeing a big girl like that go to waste!! I've caught 37 bass over ten pounds and everyone has swam away but I have taken pics of everyone of them. Just don't see the need to mount a fish now if it was a mammal that's different. It's your fish do want you want....

Re: Better pic of my 11.2 on Roberts - 08/31/14 05:24 PM

I have caught thousands of bass. I have released nearly everyone of them. I am a BIG supporter of catch and release. Lot of people have had a problem with what I did with MY fish. Those people where not with me in my situation that night. If they where I believe they would have done the same thing.

Re: Better pic of my 11.2 on Roberts - 08/31/14 05:46 PM

I sure don't have a problem with what you did with your fish. Some people are under the illusion that every fish that was catch and released lived to spawn and fight another day. The more I read about it, I don't think that is true at all.
Good Luck

Nice fish. I just wish I could catch anything that's not a sand bass in this lake. Even though the sand bass taste good.
