Evinrude 175HO - 03/02/14 11:11 PM

Does anyone have any personal experiences with a 2007 Evinrude 175 hp? Was this the first year they came out with the E-Tech. I'm looking at a boat with one on it and reading the internet it's about 50/50 likes and dislikes. Appreciate any info, good or bad.

call a few dealers that sell and/or service Etecs and ask them. That is what I did when I bought my Ranger used with an Etec 250 HO and its been one of the best motors I have ever had. Been running strong for the almost 2 years I have had it. Great power, good on fuel and oil and starts as soon as i hit the button everytime. I bought it thinking i would sell it and repower since I got a good deal on boat. At this point I ain't messing with it as its just too good and dependable a motor to change out. It has never seen the inside of a shop since I have owned it. I ain't sponsored by them at all either. I would buy another tommorrow if it was on the boat i wanted. I was leery and read all the internet BS then I called dealers and service shops that sold or repaired them and felt a lot better after I did. Lots of great reviews and also was told that Bombardier was one of the best to deal with in terms of helping a customer warranty or not.

I bought a bluewave with a 175 e-tech last year and it has been great. When buying a used motor pay a little money and have motor tech run it and take a look under the hood . If they give you the thumbs up you should be good to go. Most places will charge around 100.00 to check motor. best money you will spend when buying a used outboard. Good luck and have fun fishing.

Interesting subject. My rig came only with a 90HP Johnson but, rated for up to 140HP.
I just don't see any 140HP engines...not for sale anyway....
I guess they are not around anymore or did not prove to be a very good engine??

Thanks Mark, I have not owned an Evinrude in more years than I care to mention and I'm trying to do a little homework first. Thanks again.

Does it say "FICHT" anywhere one it or does it have carburetors? If it does have the latter, those were good engines. They were underrated on horsepower and held together.

Never mind, I looked at the year wrong.

Ficht, HO or E-tec, they are close to being the same motor and they are all a pain. You have to know what your doing just to change and index the spark-plugs. Check owners forums and other web sights. I have advised everyone that has ever ask me about buying a fuel injected OMC or BRP to keep looking. Anyone ever hear what the lower problem was on Randall Tharps E-tec at the Classic. Bad deal.
