Revo 9-1 gear ratio - 10/29/13 04:18 AM

Wow, can you believe a 9-1 gear ratio reel. I will be able to get in a lot more pitches in a day with that reel. It also feels totally different than other Revos that I have used in the past.

How does it feel. Wonder if it will hold up over the long haul. I would love one for fishing buzzbaits.

It feels good. It appears to be a high quality product. Now I just need to test it out on some bass pitching a jig.

Its badass. I am loving mine, plus it casts even farther than my other revos. Haven't even had to turn on the magnetic drag.

I go lefty when flipping and pitching. I'm thinking a 9:1 will be a comedy when I hook into a big one and try to horse it in.

Sign me up though....

A sale person at Bass Pro Shop show us one in the reel department, and it is KICK A$$. Its so light weight you won't believe your even holding it in your hand. He also told us the number of feet each revolution is. All I can say is UNREAL. Check it out if you get a chance. fish

Better buy some extra pinion gears; because you're gonna strip some out!! A lot of big gear turning a small gear. Your spool shaft is steel and the pinion gear is brass; so when you engage the clutch "hard" you put a lot of pressure on the inside of the pinion gear. Steel against brass with that big drive gear it takes a toll on the inside of the pinion gear!

Abu Garcia Revo Rocket

I have been using this reel for over a year(prototype). It has been awesome and no issues at all. I've been jacking frog fish to the boat in a few cranks of the handle with its powerful 9:1 gear ratio. Also great for lipless baits!

Re: Revo 9-1 gear ratio - 10/30/13 03:12 PM

I am trying to save money for a new pitching reel and I love the high speed version but the price difference between the 8-1 STX does not seem worth it. I found the super high speed STX on ebay new for like 150 vs 299. Maybe its just me but I don't know if an extra 150 is worth it for 4 more inches of line retrieved per handle turn. If I had more money then for sure but I have a 3 year old so I have to be careful with my money. Other than slightly more line the only difference I can see is the rocket has a bigger handle and slightly heavier.
