Bridgeport Today=Sons first small mouth

Struck out this morning for a 1/2 day trip to Bridgeport with my son landing his 1st small mouth right at 17":

Man, that lil' guy did good. It's always fun for a Dad & Son fishing expedition....

Anyone else notice the first picture of the smallmouth has odd colors. Looks like a largemouth or maybe a meanmouth?

looks like a largemouth to me with a deformed jaw.

Does not look like smallmouth.. Needless to say I think it's harder to catch that weird of a largemouth than a smallmouth!! Lol great fish

Truth be known_ When he landed it at first look I thought it was a largemouth that was really dark, because I could pick up a hint of lateral line, but then I noticed the jaw line was less pro-found and did not extend past centerline of the eye. Either way it was a great day

A lot of Bridgeport smallmouth have that same look. If the jaw line does not extend past the eye then that is a great way to tell. That is a smallmouth I would bet.

Great job. I just got my first smallmouth yesterday and it was nowhere near as big as your boy's!

Next time I catch a few in that color I will take some pix and show those that doubt it is that it is indeed a smallmouth. The "tiger: stripes are fairly noticeable even around the eyes. Like I said there area bunch out there that look more green than bronze but are smallmouth.
