Rods - 05/29/12 12:51 PM

I am looking to replace one of my rods that I broke this weekend. What would be a good rod for about 100 bucks. Also what rods should I stay away from and why? Thanks and tight lines. I'm looking for something about 7ft long

In the $100 price range I'd definitely recommend the Abu Garcia Veritas rods.

Does anybody know anything about the Allstar AST rods

Don't know anything about the Allstar rods, but if you don't know, Academy is having the rod riot right now. Be a good time to get one if you want one. I bought two falcons yesterday.

For 100 bucks, I'd jump all over a Bucoo, tough to beat in that range.

+1. I love mine since I started using it in February. I would also look at Temple Fork Outfitters Loomis series. I have heard nothing but great things about them so far.

I would definitely recommend a Falcon rod. I have never had any trouble with one. But about the Veritas rods. I was fishing Possum Kingdom this weekend and a guy I was fishing with went to set the hook and the rod snapped in the process. There was nothing the rod could have hit besides air when it happened. It just snapped right there.

Have y'all tried the falcon HD's?

Re: Rods - 05/29/12 05:45 PM

Yes I own a couple of the HD's they feel almost identical to the originals. They are fantastic rods for the money Academy has them right now for 59.00, thats a bargain!!

Might look at the falcons they have before I settle on the rods I have picked so far which are a abu vendetta and an E21 carrot stix wild. the vendetta is 7'MH for my baitcaster. The E21 is a 7'M spinning

I had never looked at the Falcon Bucoo's before today and I didn't remember you posting about it being American made.
After looking at Academy at every rod they have I was ashamed at all of the ones made in China. cry

I only found one Bucoo there and it is in my closet right now and the main reason I bought it besides the recommendations on here was that it is made in America! grin

I also purchased another brand that was made in Mexico but I passed up hundreds that was made in China.
