Goals for 2012

Goals for 2012 - 12/31/11 07:05 PM

Happy New Year! With the ending of one year and the starting of the next its time to think about what you did right, what could have been better, and what you'd like to do differently in 2012. Here is a post I just put up about setting goals for the new year.
http://tacticalbassin.com/year-goals/

Whether you post up here or in the comments on the website what are your goals for the coming year? Its really not about what everyone else's goals are, its about what you want to do with your fishing in the coming year. Even so, seeing other's goals can be very motivating for your own fishing. I'll kick it off, here are my goals for 2012:

1) After 3 years its time to stop putting it off and pull my guides license. Email me… we’ll go fishing.

2) Assist 5 anglers in catching their personal best, and have at least one of those be a 10+ lber.

3) Catch a 6.5 lb Spotted bass or larger (7 lbs would be good too)

4) Catch a 10 lber from a new body of water.

So, what's your plan for 2012? Are you just fun fishing or do you have some plans so that 2012 ends differently than 2011?

Catch the New Texas State Record Largemouth. I begin my quest tomorrow!

That is if a buddy who's there now doesn't do it today. He texted me a photo of a 13 he caught and released this morning. That was right after a 9 and an 11. Haven't heard from him since but I'd be surprised if he doesn't catch another DD or two before the day's over.

Whether its breaking the falcon lake record, the state record, or a personal best, those are all great goals. It takes preperation and commitment to achieve annual goals but putting it in writing where others can see it is a huge first step toward success.

A 10lb bass from multiple lakes this year.
A top 25 texas black bass--that may take a while!-very long term goal!
Yes, if you don't have goals you don't know where you are going!
You can't catch em if you don't go-so I want to just get more fishing time in this year!

Re: Goals for 2012 - 01/02/12 03:26 AM

1. DD bass
2. Win a tourney(going to actually take it seriously)
3. Learn the swimbait
4. Get better at using electronics to locate and catch fish
5. Not strangle idiots that prep their boats 5ft from the water at the ramp. Ok, that one might be unrealistic.

Re: Goals for 2012 - 01/02/12 03:36 AM

This year I'm going to log my number of days on the water as well as number on each partical lake. I estimate that I have spent 60-80 days per year on the water the last couple years. If it works out I'll be able to look back in a few years and have an exact number of days on a partical lake since Jan. 1, 2012.

Goals are good! The old saying is, "if you fail to plan, you plan to fail". That said, fishing isn't life or death, but having goals and hitting them is rewarding.

I am really new to fishing, getting my first boat in July 2011. I have to much to learn, so my "David Letterman Top 10" goals are (in no particular order):

1. Learn to use my electronics. I mean REALLY learn them.
2. Start throwing soft plastic type baits, as well as jigs. I prefer "moving" baits such as crankbaits, spinnerbaits, etc. Gotta learn the other stuff too!
3. Enter a few tournaments to see how the competitive fishing feels like.
4. Fine tune and understand my gear, ie., how certain rods, reels, line, and lures should be matched up.
5. Learn to pitch, skip, and flip. Sounds like a workout routine! rolfmao
6. Make some new fishing friends, especially via the TFF.
7. Mentor some younger people while fishing, using the time on the water to influence their lives in some positive way.
8. Beat my personal best of 7 pounds, preferably a DD if possible.
9. Have my bride catch a "nice one". Not sure what her personal best is, but it's probably 2 pounds or so.
10. Take a guide trip, and have the guide focus on some presentations and techniques that I am weak at.

Other than that, I am looking forward to spending more time on the water in 2012, and going through an entire year of seasonal fishing changes, not the least of which will be fishing the spawn, preferably on lakes like Fork, etc.

Here's hoping you all have a fantastic-fishing 2012! Catch the bass of a lifetime!!

Jim

1. Take my son fishing more.
2. Take my dad to Falcon again this year.
3. Learn to catch fish on a jig instead of throwing it 5 minutes and giving up.
4. Fish different lakes besides Lewisville and Fork. (Monticello this week)
5. Fish a certain trail and stick with it all year.
6. Take my fiance fishing more.
7. Have more patience with my son and fiance with fishing!
