Headed To Amon G Carter - 1st Time Fishing It - 01/26/24 02:23 AM

As the title mentions, I'm going to go a little further from home this weekend and check out Amon G Carter for the first time. Unfortunately the wind on Saturday looks pretty brutal.

Any pointers for the lake or "dead water" not waste too much time around? Planning on putting in either at Selma Park (old side) or Big Sandy (new side).

Newbie on that lake, it's not a deep lake on the dock side. The other side has allot of timber, and grass. Decent lake from what I saw, but you need some recent info. You can work all the docks you want, but there are brush piles on some that might be better than others. It is not a dangerous lake, if you have any common sense. Sounds crazy, but with the full moon I would go really early and get some time working the moon. You could launch, and graph the whole dock side In a couple hours easily.

Thanks for the info! Hadn't considered the moonlight. I guess I've only really considered fishing in the dark during the warmer months.

I only catch them on the dirty water side. I think I have been there 3 times. The clear water side looks beautiful, and barron. Maybe in the dead of winter in is ok. Doubtful though. After you go through the tunnel you are on the good side.

It is 2 ft lower than last time I was there and there was a lot of good looking water that was 3 ft deep then. The area North of Selma Park is a giant shallow flat , the shallow point coming out at Selma Park goes over 3/4 or the way across. lots of wood up there but you need to really be careful. Last summer there was a lot of grass and wood all along the North side from the Sandy Boat ramp all the way to the culvert separating the new /old part of the lake. good luck
