Running Lake Whitney

Running Lake Whitney - 09/22/23 02:24 PM

Headed out to Whitney this weekend to aid in the Media Bass Championship. I'll be a camera boat and not planning on fishing while there's a tournament going on. Wouldn't want to get blasted by the "Ding Crew." roflmao

I'm more interested in knowing how to navigate the lake. Are there lanes, bouys, etc? Is it open and no fear? Etc.

No buoys north gets sketchy. Use your navonics and stay in middle of river channel. Main lake south of bridge you can run wherever pretty much

Yup if it starts to look sketchy on the map and visibly up north, then it probably is. Stay in the channel

Nothing like an east texas lake with boat lanes, its and old lake, much of the timber has rotted and fallen away, timber up north of steele creek.

There is still some standing timber in a few places on the south end, but its mostly visible. At the current lake level they may be out of the water, but there are some rock ledges that can get you on the west side of the island (the narrow side) at the lower end. Stay to the wide side of the island.

up near jumiper cove, on the main lake side, be careful near the mouths of little coves. Some of that shelf rock is just right under the water and also comes off the point a little ways. So if you were to cut the corner, you could be in trouble.

Thanks everyone...didn't get to go out today. We had way too much taking place for the Championship setup. Not to mention the drive around the lake to White Bluff to pick up an angler who blew his motor. Will be out there tomorrow for spell.

Went out for a few hours to run the lake and see the cliffs. Man what a beautiful lake. Water is clear and has some cool places / marinas on or around it.
