Re: Your pb - 01/24/23 03:38 AM
My Best Three:
10.4 lbs in 2'-3' depth on jerk bait in September
8.5 lbs in 8'-10' depth on worm in March
8.2 lbs in 2'-3' depth on topwater in November
I didn't catch her, but had a shot, and she was in 10', and I could see her. Thought she was a large, 30# carp when she first swam up to my white jig on a nest, but then she turned sideways to look at the jig and I saw her belly was WHITE, not golden like our carp. Realized it was Dottie, a 23# monster that had been caught (snagged) two months earlier- Dixon Lake.
Otherwise:
11.6 top-frog
9.96 top-buzzer
9.56 top-spook
I fish top.

Yep. It hasn't been good on it in years anyways. The back has produced some including for ole Sinkey in one tourney but otherwise, we only stop in there for nostalgia at this point. It's hard not to. We need to do lunch again whenever I am actually in town and have the time.
I've got 2 that were over 11 lbs. First one came from under a dock that was sitting in about 20 feet of water but the fish was suspended under the dock. About 3 - 4 seconds of sink time on a Senko style bait. The second was in a brush pile on Falcon in about 18 feet of water. Both were early summertime post spawn catches.

Have 4 DD between 10-11 lbs. 3 different lakes. 2 in 2-5' of water, 2 in 12-18' of water. All off bottom contact presentations. My personal opinion is they are at every depth, Chances are you are going to catch them where you fish the most. I spend a lot of time in the summer off shore. Caught 2 of them out there in July. Up shallow during the spawn, caught 2 flipping timber in less than 5'.
I think if you did a complete survey most will be shallow because that is where folks fish the most. If you do the same survey in 15 years you will see it even out more as people become more and more comfortable off shore with improved electronics.
11.44 IN 6FT 13-10 IN 10FT 12-7 IN 12FT 10.80 IN 15 FT 2 OTHER 10'S OUT OF 12 FT
3 over 13. One in appx 12-15ft at night on fork in summer. One off a bed in February in 3ft, One in January in 18ft. Point being....big fish exist at various depths depending on lots of factors and lake location. Can't really group them together. Unless sight fishing, then most are 6ft are less, the ones we can see and there's a ton of guys who've caught their biggest fish in spring just bank beating, but they caught it off a bed they just couldn't see it..

Totally a question that can and will be answered in 100 different ways. In West Texas, Ivie and others. Of my 13 DDs it's about 50/50. During the Spring all have been Shallow - Less than 8ft. During the Winter everything big has been in 20+.

Re: Your pb - 01/26/23 02:18 PM
Ton of variability with these answers. Kinda as expected.
Bass are really adaptable to their environment.
For me, public lake-4ft. Private lake 5ft and 10ft. The vast majority of my biggest fish 2-6ft.
Two notable exceptions were absolutely huge fish I lost (rrrrrr) -one 12ft, one 22ft.

Re: Your pb - 01/26/23 04:53 PM
I have never seen a weight on a scale bust 10:00 on a fish I have caught.
Can't count times I have been very close , all site fishing
9.86lbs. Lake Fork. Mid November on a Spinnerbait in 3' or less of water.
My top 5 were all in less than 3ft of water, the top 3 were all on Buzz Baits.
Both my Girlfriend and my PB came in 4 ft of water on a 5" Trick Worm...
most of us that have PB's over 10lbs in shallow water ( shallow being 10 feet or less ) are because that's the depth of water we spend most of the time fishing .
For me personally , I am good at fishing 10 feet or less , and I totally suck when I need to fish deep . I can catch them on a D-shot in deep water really good , and I am decent on a Crig and Trig in the 10-30 foot range . Any other technique --- forget it .
Part of fishing deep requires a very stable boat ( with spot lock preferred ) and really good electronics ( preferably with forward facing sonar ) Look at Josh Jones ( sp?) --- he typically catches monsters fishing deep , using FF sonar --- and those are fish most of us never get .
