Lake O’ the Pines Spotted Bass

Lake O’ the Pines Spotted Bass - 10/22/22 01:21 PM

Would this be a good time of year to catch a big spotted bass at Lake O the Pines? I was thinking of trying around the Bullfrog Marina area or by the dam. Has anyone stayed at the Bullfrog Marina cabins? Will the spotted bass be shallow or deep? How big are they? So many questions. roflmao

My son caught one pre-fishing a few weeks back in 1’ of water on a shallow point. 6th sense catwalk

Weighed 2.41lb and threw up a few small shad at the boat. I thought it was a good size spot compared to the others we’ve caught. -JM

Are you asking for a spot for spots? lol. I have always caught them in the same water as the LM but then I've never specifically targeted them. They are typically going to be under 2 lbs. Keep us posted on your trip.

All those points from the dam down to hurricane are usually loaded with spots. There's a creek between big cypress and hurricane. Not sure what the name of it is. The hard clay / rock points at the mouth of that creek seems to always be good for a few decent spots. With that said, LOP is loaded with spots and you can catch them all over.

Most of the bigger spots I've caught on Pines has been this time of year.

Large bar in front of Alley is usually loaded with spots. Drop shot or Ned rig.

My first fish out of that lake was a spot.I caught it on a C-Rigged Zoom Centipede deep. It was mid summer but my experience has been at other locations is they generally stay deep or suspended over deep water.

Are the parking lots around LOPs safe?

My wife and I made a 3 day trip to Lake O the Pines to chase spotted bass. We caught largemouth bass, warmouth, freshwater drum, channel catfish, blue catfish, white crappie, and lots of yellow bass. We never found the spotted bass. I fished with a fly rod much of the time and caught mainly largemouth bass and crappie. The weather and scenery was beautiful, but fishing was tough. Still a great trip.
